The general consensus of science is that the universe is about 13.5 billion to 16 billion years old. That is 13,500,000,000 to 16,000,000,000 years.

It is something of a moot point, in that the early universe was so unlike what we think of as the universe nowadays, that it can be difficult to say when "our" universe formed.

If you earned a degree in astrophysics/astronomy and studied really hard for about 15 more years, you would become as confused and dumbfounded by this amazing universe and the tricks it can throw at us as we try to figure it out as most senior scientists are.

But there is nothing more fun. Dive in!

To help you rationalists:
If you read a few of the articles that explain what we think we know about the big bang and begin to form a concept for yourself, could you find a better way to explain what you've gotten to a group of goatherds around a fire in the desert than "In the beginning...."
