George Bush is oblivious to the American people's feelings. He's oblivious to the world's feelings. He's oblivious to the constitution. He's just plain oblivious.

I think when we talk war, it should be separated as the Afghan war and the Iraq war. I doubt that the majority is against being in Afghanistan looking for OBL. In fact, if Jr. wouldn't have been in such a rush to whip up on the dude that tried to kill daddy, then we would probably already have OBL's head on a platter. Then maybe Saddam and some of the other loony tunes would have taken us a little more seriously.
I think the majority is against the Iraq war, not the OBL/Afghan war.

Humanist, I agree with most of the yahoos in that the majority of Americans are not anti-war. It seems most Americans are in fact upset over the difficulty involved in conquering Iraq and appropriating its resources. It does not seem that the American people are particularly concerned by morality.
As for the lack of leverage of the populace in American politics, you are absolutely right. The US government has a long history of enacting policies that are contrary to the wishes of the majority. During election year, issues are obscured so that the appearance of democracy may be kept up while still enacting the laws most dear to corporate America.
The only way to let the rulers know the power of the majority is massive non-violent protest. As long as this does not occur the US will slide closer and closer true fascism. As a Latin American I can tell you that nothing worries me more than a return to Reaganite fascism. Many of my brothers were killed in Central America by Reagan and his gang. I fear that if you and your fellow anti-war Americans do not stop the present war, there will be yet another attack on South America and millions will be murdered once again.
Do not succumb to defeatism. War is murder and it must be stopped.

The Iraq war is a testament that our so-called “representative democracy” fails dismally to represent the people. We can blame this on an unresponsive political body, but that does not address the culprit of the problem, but merely its symptom.

The reason we have an unresponsive political elite, is because the American electorate has allowed themselves to be confined to a two party system. Just as in business, if a monopoly is allowed to arise, the people will not be served as efficiently as if there was healthy competition. If we want a government that seeks to truly cater to the needs of the people, as opposed to serving its own interests, then we must insist on voting for third parties in large numbers so as to introduce competition into the political landscape.

there is a big difference between the Anti-war and anti- defeat crowd. When polled the majority want a new direction or strategy for victory and not anti-war. The anti-war is a small base that live in a different realm most trying to relive their 1960's.

Anti war or anti THIS war? Only a third of the people supported the revolution. You want to give this land back to Queen Elizabeth II? This war has the support of 44% of the people better than the Civil War. Sorry, you black people will have to get back into chains, the people didn't support you. Call the Germans, they must have won World War I and they didn't know it.

Of course you are important!
You go to the store and buy purple plastic things, that you do not need and can not afford!
You keep America in debt! You keep the great stinking wheels of commerce moving!
You provide CEOs with multi-million dollar salaries!

All kneel and shout "Heil to the Almighty Dollar!"

Not so much an anwer as a question, for GaryB. If the chickenhawks are the anti-defeat crowd, why didn't they accept the Victory that the troops gave them in '03?

yes it has.

I'd throw in Katrina as well. And post-Katrina... seeing as how people down there still live in FEMA trailers, nearly 2 years later.

It's despicable how our people who truly need a helping hand can't depend on their government, while our government lines their pockets with any extra money they can scrounge up while turning a blind eye to the real issues here at home.

Having toruble surrendering? Are you dreaming of 4/30/75?
By the way you are not the majority support for the war is growing and the defeatists are a minority. Supporters are a minority but the plurality belongs with the war. Nice piece of propaganda though.

You don't live in the US, how does this affect you?

It seems to me that your quarrel is with the UN and with Congress, since they both voted to conduct this conflict.

I thought you were for the truth ALWAYS?
