can you use any cell phone with any cell phone service provider???

No you cannot. Why not? Several reasons. First phone providers are using different coding technology in their phones. As an example, Cingular/AT&T uses GSM while Verizon uses CDMA. Also, providers "lock" their phones so you can only use them with that provider.

Normaly when you sign a 1 or 2 year contract you get a free phone (or a disc on a better phone)

Seeing as though you obviously already have Internet access, I recommend checking out each of the sites of all the service providers that you are interested in.
Because they have some pretty good pictures of their phones on the sites.

At the Virgin Mobile site you can make the pictures spin so you can view the phones at lots of angles!

no the phones are locked for the specific carrier.

the phone has to take the card or "sim card" so it has to fit.
