Everyone knows of Wal-Mart and Google.. But would they be so popular if owned by someone in the LGBT community?

Opinions please. :)

And also, how would you feel about these companies? Would you feel the same?

I agree with jennysmith0214. Few are the days when integrity and believing in a cause can sway public opinion and behavior. Most people are so strapped for cash these days that even if Wal*Mart were found to be in gross violation of some human rights issue, a small enclave of people would boycott them but most people would simply shrug and go on buying their spandex casualwear from W*M. Until we manage to control somehow the money=power/privilege mindset (as well as the ever increasing imbalance of wealth) in this world, I don't think people will really care. I don't shop there because they engage in discrimination, low wage compensation and they don't allow their employees to unionize. Plus a lot of their stuff just isn't good quality. There's a price we pay as a country for cheap goods and instant gratification.

I think that people wouldn't care too much.

Take Elton John for example. Everybody has known that he is gay for years, and yet I constantly meet a lot of people who are uncomfortable with gays, but they still listen to his music.

Wal-Mart is just too big of a deal for people to consider the internal politics of it and whether or not its owned by a LGBT person.

Number one issue that trumps everything in politics is money. Wal-Mart is cheap. People are about saving money. If anything they would just have a better selection of clothes if they were owned by a gay guy. Maybe we should sign them up for queer eye for the clothing line selector guy.

I wouldn't support wal mart even they exclusively supported myself

they are a greedy company destroying our small business economy

and they suck

they dont treat their employees well, pay low wages and make soo much in profits

they are trying to become the only store we have

I'm sorry but I dont care what cause they support

I will not support them

It's so frustrating... just because they support the LGBT community they lose business!? Doesn't make them any less of a 'good' business... funny, people don't mind supporting the sweatshops... in other countries... but soon as they reach out to one young gay/lesbian... deals off.

How would it matter, they are known for their good prices at Wal-Mart and I don't really google anything but it wouldn't make one lick of difference to me to begin with.

How do you think Target stays in business then? They will give donations to the Gay/Lesbian Community but not Vietnam Veterans. So I think that it would depend on advertisment on how it would be perceived.

You are a little confused Wal-Mart and Google are corporations. They are not own by one single person. The share holders each own a percentage of them. Anyone gay, straight or bi can buy as many shares of them as they can afford and with enough gays BINGO you have a gay own company.
