I bought a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router, Access Point, Firewall and 4-Port 10/100 Switch on accident. I thought it was just a router.. well i was wrong. Can you please tell me what this is actually used for. My sister in-law has a desktop downstairs and wants to put a laptop upstairs, will this work for her??

Is this a router? or does it work with a router? Sorry I'm confused.

its still a router actually better to have a firewall and built in hub. You don't have to use the firewall however. And if you have only 1 PC you only need 1 of the 4 ports.

So yes your sister-in-law can use it

I bought the WRT54G version 6 and it was a complete POS. Finally, a year later Linksys has finallly released firmware updates to fix the major flaws -- be sure to update yours. And yes, if the router works it will support wireless internet.
