I 'now of many manufacturers of Laptop the world over, but , I don't 'now the best among them. pls, help out.

The best in what category(ies)? The question is highly subjective and varies wildly between individuals. For some things I like Dell, other things I like HP, still others I like Fujitsu, Panasonic, Averatec or Sony.
One notebook maker that I don't recommend however is Lenovo as we have seen a VERY high failure rate of units just out of the box or within weeks of purchase.
Be more specific and we'll try to provide solid answers.

Toshiba makes the best computers. I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092, so that proves that I have experience with Toshiba laptops.

I think most big brands are all good; eg hp, dell, sony, toshiba, mac, acer, asus samsung etc. I think probably the best are Toshiba and Apple Mac. I guess you get what you pay for.

I would say lenovo has great quality control and build.
Asus is also gaining popularity in the US
