You have to know the width of the new carpet most are 12ft wide some vary a little bit.Simply put Lenght x Width -- Divided by 9 Equals the Square Yards. This only gives the size of the room you have to figure in how much carpet12 wide will cover a 32 long room with the the least amount of seams and the least waste. Answer 64 yards, three pieces of 12 wide,16 feet long, two seams. Waste approx. 4ft by 16ft Unless they have carpet 16 wide your going to have waste.

The first answer you need is how wide is the roll of carpet you want to buy. Find the carpet you want and ask how wide the roll is. They are normally 12 foot but many come in wider lengths. It might not even matter what your estimate is because the better carpet places will have a rep come out and measure the room for you. So go shopping first with an estimate of 71 square yards so you can come close to a price for the carpet and padding. One other thing, always upgrade the padding!

You need I piece 33 by 12 and one piece 12 by 16' 6".
That is 396 sf plus 198 sf = 594 sf divided by 9 = 66 square yards.
You would have to split the 16'6" piece lengthwise then seam the two pieces onto onside of the 33 ft piece. You want to make sure the nap runs the same way.

Mark B is wrong. No one sell 16 foot wide carpet. You can get 12 or 15 foot wide.

16 Ft Wide Carpet

64 yards with two 16' seams.

Carpeting is 12' wide (4 yards). The installer will install the carpeting with the shortest seams, that would be across the width.
You will have a 4' x 16' leftover remnant.

This is like fourth grade math....(Length)(Width)= ( Sq. Ft)
Note: all units entered must be the same, the answer will be this same unit. Such as, Lfeet(Wfeet)=(sq feet)
