The first licorice I tried was black and it was nasty. Yuck. Later came the red licorice and wow it tasted great. Red licorice is a good snack for a pick me up. It also travels well and won't melt like chocolate bars do. It is also addicting!

BLACK which is flavored with the extract of the roots of the licorice plant, and usually anise oil as well.
(red is extruded in a way to resemble licorice, but is made with strawberry or cherry flavorings rather than licorice.)
