What do they have to have? I was looking on the site just out of curiosity for California, and it said you have to have a valid CA Id, so how do they do it?

I know tons of people here in Cali that don't have there papers but they've gotten married. How do they do it? Where do they go?

Over time the rules change with respect to what documents are needed to get things done.

People who got some documents before rules changed, are like grandfathered in ... the documents are not confiscated, recinded because the rules changed for getting them ... that only applies to future people needing them.

Also when the rules change, it takes a while for all officials to learn the new rules, which change and change and change. Some people are still doing their job using last year's rules or last decade's rules, or the rules they learned when they first started their jobs.

Some illegals got married before they became illegals.

You do not have to be a resident of CA in order to get married there. Therefore, when applying for a marriage license a person does not have the have a “CA id”, they just have to acceptable id.

If you’re thinking about marrying an illegal (and you didn’t state you are), then I’d suggest you reconsider. Be aware that marrying an US resident does not make a person ‘legal’.

You don't have to be a citizen to get a state ID card. Just show your birth certificate and your mexican ID.
