Ok,you opened a can of worms here didn't you. I see from the various responses that alot of people answering you do not even believe it is possible for a ghost to exist. Your question was not whether they think ghosts exist or not but why a ghost would show themselves to certain people. If you were a ghost, and were trying to make contact for whatever reason. would you choose to show yourself to someone that tried their very best to explain you away, or ignore you attempts...or someone with a more open mind that would help you out or just appreciate your efforts to contact? Spirits/Ghosts show themselves for different reasons. They are NOT only seen at night. If you believe your home is has a ghost trying to contact you,Set up a voice recorder, I suggest analog (tape) not digital, you may want to use an external mic and ask what they want.

You have asked the right question.
The logic behind why they only show themselves to certain people is the same reason why we tend to seek out certain people...you wouldn't call a plumber to come and fix your window would you?
Ok, somebody somewhere might...
Mainly it is because they already know if you're going to be able to help them or not. There was one instance where we went on an investigation and there were two "official psychics" and a couple that were psychic/sensitive.
I was one of the "official psychics" along with another girl who does automatic writing --- we both went to all the same rooms at separate times; yet in one room she didn't receive any impressions and I did...quite loudly in fact...with lots of photos and video to back it up.
The short of it is that the being(s) that were there wanted to leave and they knew that the other girl would make them stay behind where as I gladly would bring them home and keep them safe until they were ready to move on.
So if you're seing these spirits you might try seeing what you can do to help them...so long as it isn't dangerous or unethical/unmoral you shouldn't have much to worry about and you can always say no.
Also, sometimes they're just looking for confirmation...sometimes to make sure they're really dead...and sometimes to make sure they really can go; you can just tell them it is quite alright if they want to move on to the light.

I think you're on to something here. However, I think you're asking the wrong question. Rather than asking why ghosts only show themselves to certain people, why don't you ask yourself why only certain people see ghosts. While you're at it, why don't you ask yourself why people only see ghosts at night, almost always right before or right after sleep.
What is the common element in all of this? The very small percentage of people who see ghosts. These people often believe in other paranormal things as well, like UFOs, ESP, etc. Employing Occam's Razor, which is easier to believe, that a parallel (and unrecordable) universe exists to which only a very small percentage of humans are privy or that a very small percentage of humans are fantasy prone and see things that really aren't there?

It depends on what you saw and under what conditions you saw them. Perhaps there is a natural explaination for everything that happened, and its not ghosts at all.
Sleep paralysis is usually confused for spiritual attacks, rapes, and encounters, as well as alien abductions.
I believe shadowmen, which are spirits which manifest as walking shadows, might be the result of the mind slipping into a similar hypnogogic state while walking around. Possibly brought on by stress or insomnia.
The one conclusion I am pretty sure of is that ghosts are not dead people. They might be some other type of spiritual beings, or they might just be completely manufactured by the mind. But dead people do not come back to haunt the living.

Most ghosts are very picky in my experience with them. Some also trust more than others, allowing certain people with a bigger than normal, outlook on the paranormal. And it's more of how open YOU persay are to them. It's like a natural gift.

It's a power of suggestion thing. If you are already convinced that ghosts exist and traipsing about, you'll see them everywhere even when there are better, simpler explanations to be found. If you don't believe in ghosts, it's much less likely that you'll see something that will deceive you into thinking it was a ghost.
Deep faith, the kind that many ghost hunters and paranormalists tend to have in ghosts, sometimes makes it difficult to see the world in a rational light.

Ghosts or spirits are real creatures, from the spirit realm, so they are not physical like you and me, they are what I call spirit creatures. They have special powers and abilities. There purpose for allowing people to see them is to get people to believe in them and therefore by extension believe in their side of spirit realm. Belief in this side of the spirit realmis in itself fairly harmless because it is a fact that it does exist. However , this side of the spirit realm is usually not a very nice one. It encompasses many things like superstition, tarot cards, Ouija boards, etc. It may appear harmless but those who are involved in it are controlled by it. I don't consider them to be free people.

because only certain people have the ability to see spirits. I myself am a medium, with a few gifts, but I lack that particular one. I can feel and hear them, but I can't see them straight on (I do know they're there, just can't see them).

Never under estimate the power of the mind to filter out what it doesn't want to see. I have trained my self to not look straight at a ghost. I watch them in my peripheral vision area. For some reason they don't get picked up in my center vision. It has something to do with your brain sorting things out in your vision recognition center. Peripheral vision skips that area and goes to your brain. You seem to have developed that type of skill. I have also been able to see ghosts straight on too, but that seems to be the only a stronger type of ghost experience.

I don't think everyone has the same abilities. You said you actually SAW it, but did you HEAR it or FEEL it as well? It may be that each individual is able to experience apparitions and spirits through different senses. Some people see them, hear them, feel them, even smell them or just plain old sense that they are there. We recognize the presence of apparitions differently because of what we believe, or which of our senses is most developed to notice these energies. I feel that everyone has the ability, but not to the same degrees as others. And many people choose not to acknowledge their ability or even that such energies exist. So probably the "many people" who "heard and saw results" of what the energies did, were just using the senses that they were able to. You may have a stronger ability that is more developed and sensitive to noticing these spirits. I'd consider it a gift.
