Ethiopia is located in the Horn of Africa. It is a country with a strong (pre-Colonial) Christian heritage and is mentioned through out the Bible in the Old Testament and New Testament. Christianity came to Ethiopia under Queen Candace's rule around 743 A.D. Later, other religions came to Ethiopia like Islam, etc.
And yes, Ethiopia is the ONLY country to have remained independent, free from colonization. Even when Italian forces invaded in WWII the Ethiopians put up a strong fight to try to defeat the Italians but they did not have much military help from the Allies until many people died. However, all Ethiopians DO NOT consider Mussolini's invasion , colonization because the Italians could not change Ethiopian culture, and they were not successful in dominating all aspects of Ethiopian life. The Fascists came into a country and tried to destroy but they could only take natural resources and could not crush or demean Ethiopia's proud, long standing heritage.
Once the Allies were able to force Mussolini's invaders out of Ethiopia, the governement worked hard to rebuild the economy. But poor climate, drought, etc. led to poverty in Ethiopia. This being said, Ethiopia still established several colleges (universities) and as a people, Ethiopians have a strong cultural work ethic.

To add to what my compatriots have already said...
- Ethiopia's 5 years of occupation by the Fascist Italians is not considered as colonization because the war never stopped. They were finally driven out at the end of WWI. As usual, they lost the war.
- That wasn't the only time the Italians were defeated; the major one was at Adowa a couple of decades before that. There was Dog'ali and lots more.

Cheers !

A country of northeast Africa. A kingdom was established around Aksum in the 1st century a.d. and declined in the 7th century. After a long period of disorder, the area was finally reunited in 1889 by Emperor Menelik II, who greatly expanded Ethiopia by conquest. Italy invaded in 1935 and held the country until 1941. Following the military overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie (ruled 1930-1974), a socialist state was established. The country suffered enormous hardship from war with rebels from the province of Eritrea (which declared independence in 1993) and from famine and drought. Guerrilla forces toppled the government in 1991 and subsequently established a transitional government. Addis Ababa is the capital and the largest city. Population: 66,500,000.
