There is no place where a nobody with no experience is going to get a speaking role in a major film or tv series. Why would producers who can get the finest experienced professionals even think of doing that?

There is no quick and easy way to become a star. Forget it.

Check Actors Access and Backstage.com for auditions you can self-submit to. You do need a headshot and resume though to be able to submit.

For Lavender Brown, Warner Brothers was specifically looking for an unknown, so they held a huge open call and posted the audition notice in many places that non-actors would be sure to see it. Same thing for Luna Lovegood and Cho Chang in the previous Harry Potter movie, Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray and Clark Kent/Superman in Superman Returns.

If those are the only type of roles/projects you're looking for, you will probably see the notices if you keep an eye out, since they're not looking for professional actors.
The websites above have notices for indie films, student films, shorts and commericals among other things, not the huge hollywood blockbusters.

I'm really sorry I don't actually know (although would like to!) but I just wanted to say, thanks "Theatre Doc" for your truly insightful reply... but actually when they needed to cast HERMIONE GRANGER they held open auditions to the general public and that is how they cast it. They also have done this many a time before. So let's not get all pessimistic eh?

Good luck with your acting! :)

(the first person to answer seems a little jaded, don't you think...)

It is EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to get a lasting Paid career in acting, especially on screen; but I for one would encourage you to pursue your dreams and passions. Living without them is not living at all.

Keep going. The Journey alone can be worth it.
