If the headache is situated at the base of the skull, I recommend extra-strength Tylenol (or generic) and some time in a quiet, dark place.
If the headache is around the temples or at the forehead, I suggest 2 or 3 regular strength ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen... I found out recently that I can not take Tylenol, because of the wicked withdrawals it can occur... gives you a headache 10x times worse.
But the best medicine is laughter! Then followed by sleep! Lots of it!! :)

Water.
The Army taught me to properly hydrate.
And maybe a better answer is water and relaxation therapy. In my view, a great number of headaches are caused by either dehydration or stress.

Tylenol and some caffeine...whether in coffee or a soda....works for me. Often, my headaches are because I am addicted to caffeine and have not had a fix in awhile....horrible, I know...but it helps and it peps me up at the same time.
