now it is, a few years ago it wasn't
......all technically speaking
You can argue that it gives a player "unfair" advantages over other athletes, but until recently, it wasn't against the rules.
"EDIT" If you are arguing that steroids are cheating because it gives you an advantage rather than arguing that it's against the rules, you better also believe that stealing signs while at second base (as the runner), stealing signs from the coach to the catcher, or yelling "I got it!" while running by a fielder is also cheating....and at that point, I'd call you stupid. And don't even try to mention the "unwritten rules" of the game. If you aren't breaking a rule, it's not cheating

Yes it can make a difference. Consider this if you only increased the batters power by a meger 10% via the steriods (and they probably do much more than that) On you basic 375 foot gap wall a ball that would have been hit only 350 feet is now over the wall instead. Given the number of balls caught at the warning track or wall I say it could make a big difference.
No if I took streriod I still couldn't hit home runs so it does not take you from nothing to great. But in the Bonds case it did two things.
1. Took him from great to all time great
2. Obviously prolonged his career and power if you look at his homers since he started taking them. At that age the number of homers usually starts to go down.

YES!
The question of steroid use in baseball has been an ongoing issue for Major League Baseball since the mid 1990s and into the 21st century. Steroids are performance-enhancing drugs which have been banned from baseball.
While rumors of drug use by players have persisted for years, the controversy over steroids has grown considerably due to the drastic rise in home runs since 1995. During the decade that ensued the 1994 Major League Baseball strike, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds each surpassed Roger Maris' home run record, which had stood largely unchallenged for over 30 years.
Several players have come forward in recent years to suggest that drug use is rampant in baseball. David Wells stated that "25 to 40 percent of all Major Leaguers are juiced". Jose Canseco stated on 60 Minutes and in his book Juiced that as many as 85% of players used steroids, and that he credited steroid use for his entire career. Ken Caminiti revealed that he won the 1996 NL MVP award while on steroids.
Former major league pitcher Tom House spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle in 2005, admitting to steroid use during his playing career and claiming that use of steroids was already widespread in baseball by the time he started his professional career in the late 1960s.

Never.
1. Muscles are too tight so that you cannot swing a bat properly.
2. Eyesight diminishes so that you cannot sharply see the ball in order to hit it.
3. It messes your emotional state up in a way where you cannot control your emotions and function normally. You'd be mad, depressed and full of rage and not focused on playing professional sports.

It absolutely is cheating. The added strength you build allows for greater bat speed and that is a HUGE advantage. I've even heard HGH can improve your eyesight which is another major advantage.
Steroids is not going to make the average person a great ball player, but it can make a good ballplayer into a great one.

It was placed on the banned substance list in 1991 for a reason. It has been proven to give you an unfair advantage.
