You should have a copy of the Poet's Market, I think the new edition will be out shortly, they generally release it in August.

You can also go to www.duotrope.com and you can change the search functions to sort by payment.

I still recommend the Poet's Market because there is a lot of good information for poets just starting out. Things that can save you a lot of time and postage and potential embarrassment.

Good luck!

Here's the rub...in order to generate buzz about your poetry, it must be read...and the more who read your poetry, the more marketable your poetry becomes. If your "piddly" paper is willing to print your poems, I would recommend you allow them to do so...it only adds to your publishing credits and it gets your poems into homes...that's what you need if you're going to build up a reputation. Also, being in print, any print, gives you more credibility than "waiting to be discovered". Poets Market is a good resource for finding publishers who might publish your work, but it won't make you money.
If you allowed your local paper to publish 100 of your poems, you could then print a book of your 100 poems and say "as previously published in..." or even call them "the best 100 poems as seen in...." Never underestimate the power of the press :)

keep writing

Alas, my friend, I have been a successful working poet for 40 years, I know of no paying poetry magazines. Most literary magazines pay their contributors in copies of the issue their work appears in. Every poet I know, and I know a whiz bang number of them, has to make a living doing other things, usually teaching creative writing. Sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings.
