Nope... not the same... at least, not in my opinion.
You can tolerate a situation that you find appalling because you prefer the situation to the consequences of changing it.. You can tolerate somebody saying things that make your blood boil because you recognize their right to free speech. That's tolerance...
If you're apathetic, you don't care. Noting is important enough to you that it would move you to do something to change it. You have no interest in changing it. No situation is that appalling, nobody is that disgusting, nobody's views are that despicable to you. You just don't care.
I think apathy, at least in this country, is pretty wide-spread. It seems often to hide under the guise of protest. But nobody really cares to do anything effective about it. One hears, for example, protest about the lack of troops, but one also notices that they are not joining the military. One hears protests about elected officials, but one also notices that none of the protesters are running for office... and that few of them even bother to vote. One hears protests about the administration, and threats to leave the country, but one also sees nothing else--not one of the protesters would really leave the United States because that would require activity... a commitment.. non-apathy. One hears protests about conditions in their cities, but one also notices no effort being made to correct the conditions... other than to complain. And these protests are not aimed at those who are in a position to do anything. They're aimed at the general public... many of whom are just as apathetic as the protesters.
While the results of tolerance and apathy may seem different, there can be a point at which toleration ends. Apathy is a permanent malady.

Tolerance is a social, cultural and religious term applied to the collective and individual practice of not persecuting those who may believe, behave or act in ways of which one may not approve. Tolerance is seen as a more widely acceptable term than "acceptance" and particularly "respect," where the application to controversial parties is concerned.
But Apathy is simply void of emotion or concern.
So one does not have to do with the other. Because in tolerance you may not agree with a certain lifestyle but you just don't persecute the person living it. Apathy, yuou dont care one way or the other.

Apathy is not caring about something. Think of it as a total absence of opinion or, if an opinion exists, complete unwillingness to act on it. Tolerance is having an opinion, but accepting that others have a right to diagree with it.
You really need to learn the difference. Democracy requires a tolerant majority, but dies from an apathetic one. If your teachers didn't teach you that you need to question what else you were not told.

For me tolerance could be translated in "respect" to the others rights and apathy refers to this negative attitude to respond to something.
However in some point tolerance could become the same as apathy, since could be based on the unknowlegde of the consecuences of our actions.

no. Tolerance involves respect and dedication. Apathy is just looking at a situation, shrugging your shoulders, and saying, "Whatever".
