There was a time when it was widely accepted, and actually expected. Gods were known to be gay or bisexual, and some religions sought out the unique energy that homosexuals and bisexuals have.

Then other religious groups (I *Think* it was mostly the catholics) started taking every thing over. Killing every one who didn't agree with them. Blah blah blah that whole shpeel. Once the followers of "The one true god" took a hold of every thing and wrote there book it was deemed a sin. But then again, so is sex in general.

That lasted hundreds of years, and we are finally crawling out of the hole they dug for the GLBT community. Society as a whole is once again becoming less homophobic.

Thank the Goddess there is much less need to hide now than there was in the hundreds of years before us, and that it is no longer something you get stoned over in most countries.

Society as a general is becoming less homophobic, how ever, homophobics are becoming terribly violent, vocal, and more organized.

It depends entirely on which society you live in. Ask someone from a big urban city in a democratic country and they'd more than like say less homophobic. But someone from that country in a rural village may be less inclined to agree with that. And gay people in countries where homosexuality is still illegal, well they're bound to say more.
As a whole I think society is becoming less and less homophobic, because a lot of people have a LGBT friend, often whether they know it or not.

Society is definitely getting less and less homophobic. Despite the number of trolls that are here on this board, evidence has shown that people are more tolerant and accepting of each other. It is important to recognize that this is the hard work of many that have fought for our ability to be visible and to be who we are without fear. There is still much work to be done for our equality. We still don’t have full rights as our heterosexual counterpart. Not to go off on a tangent, it is going to take time to change society’s perspective toward LGBTQ folks. It has drastically changed since Stonewall whereas we have more visibility, and with visibility come our struggle for equality. We are all working toward a multi-cultural global village where we celebrate our diversity. Yes, we are getting less homophobic, less racist, less sexist, less anti Semitic, less whatever “isms” there are out there. That doesn’t mean the work is finished!

Less homophobic as time goes on. What is happening however is that the nation is getting more and more polarized on all sorts of issues. This is causing the right wing faction to become more vocal and vigilant and verbally violent. Consider Ann Coulter for example. Her comment toward John Edward was juvenile and a perfect example of the juvenile mentality of the rabidly bigoted. I think the pendulum is swinging back and putting the right wing out of favor.

I would say it is becoming less homophobic in most Western societies but the proliferation of the Internet may make it seem that there is more hatred out there than there really is. People don't tend to go on the computers and say "I have no problem with gay people" but there are plenty who will go and get on their soapbox, especially religious people.

I think it all depends on where you live. Some parts of the world and country are way too conservative and might be that way for a very long long time, and so in those parts they probably are more homophobic than others.

I wish that we could just except others for who they are and not judge them by their lifestyle. Everyone is different and that's what makes us unique.

Less homophobic, society today is becoming more acceptable to people with differences. Lol, even my mom who is a strongly religious woman is starting to see homosexual as equals which I am glad for.

More homophobic. I'm bisexual and get abuse every day. My friend (who is gay) was taken into hospital 2 months ago because he was severely attacked by a gang of straight men. It's disgusting what this world has come to. Shame on you if you are homophobic!!!

That's a good question. It all depends on where one is located. For instance, I go to a diverse and open high school, where everyone accepts the fact that everyone is different. Overall, I do feel like society has accepted homosexuality. Gays have become more open as well, with the gay pride belts, bracelets, necklaces and etc. It's pretty cool how things change with time.
