I love Alstott, and am a huge fan of the way he played the game, but I just don't think he is. After all, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Really Good Players. He's like the Jeff Bagwell of football to me: so, so close, but not quite.

I could be wrong though. What do you think?

he was a stud at what he did, but I agree....the HOF needs to keep the highest of standards in order to maintain it's integrity

Alstott was a very good player. The chances of him making the H O F are very slim. He would have had a better chance if he would have been on a better team. Had some great season and a super bowl. Made the pro bowl a few times but not good enough. Sorry.

When did he say he is retiring? He was placed on injured reserve, and is out for the season. Most likely the end of his career. But he stated in his interview he isn't ready to quit, and wont comment on his future until later on in the season. I believe when he does retire he will make the hof. Maybe not first time, but eventually. I'm not a big fan of his, but I have much respect for him. He is a fullback, how many other fullback have done what he has done? When you look at what he has done at f.b. he does deserve to go to the hof. We can't compare the man to Emmit or L.T.. As much effort, heart, and Punishing he's put into his career, makes up for some of the record statistics he might not have.

YES. Alstott while he is not the most memorable player of our generation he is one of the most liked. Football has begun a movement to place people of high character in the spotlight and give them preference over more talented criminals. All he needs to do is win the vote of HOF committee which is made of media and former players now in the hall, and both groups love him.

I'm a big Alstott guy as well, but unfortunately, he will not see the hall. He was one of the best fullbacks in the game for quite a few years, but fullbacks just do not make it in. He will be similar to Moose Johnson - many people will feel he deserves it, but he will never make it in.

No way he is in the hall of fame. I was a huge alstott fan when he came in the league but there is no way he makes it in numbers aren't good enough and he was almost a tweener on the field he was fast enough to play half back but was big enough and listed as fullback. what would he go in as?

I'm a Purdue and an Alstott fan, but I still say hell no does he even remotely deserve to be in the HOF. And to compare him to Bagwell doesn't even do Bagwell justice.

I'm not sure he's gonna be in the hall of fame...but that's not important to me since I'm not a bucs fan...I have a question...when did alstott announce his retirement? I read he was on IR.

I think he's in that border line too, his career is not long enough, he was good for a period of 6 years maybe but after that just alot of injuries. But he was the greatest rushing fullback ever, not blocking, his specialty was the short 2 or 3 yards, guarantee a TD's with that distance of play went he touches the ball. Yeah i say he's not either.

The day OJ Simpson is ripped from the HoF and his bust is melted down to make coin operated condom machines , then the HoF can say there selective , until then they could put Dante Rosario in and it wouldnt suprise me , so why not Alstott

When I read the question at first I thought it was a no brainer, but you did bring up a good point. While he was one of the best fullbacks of a generation he dosen't really stick out in my mind. But then again he was very consistent and sometime the best offensive weopon and the face of Bucs for a while even if he was just a fullback. good question though.
