I wondered these same things and wimped out on using cloth with my first. The topic came up with my aunt who said she rinsed and soiled diapers over the toilet because you don't want that in the washer. But I can't figure out how she rinsed them! It doesn't seem like pouring water would work, A spayer like at the kitchen sink would be ideal but is too far away and I'm not rinsing in the sink. So it's still a mystery. I can't afford the diaper service but I still want to try the cloth with #2. I do agree with using disposables when you go out places. And they have that water resistant flanel material which make adorable protective diaper covers and lap pads. If you can find a good cleaning routine they certainly save lots of money. And washing a load a day and rinsing right away isn't bad if you're at home with baby anyhow. Good luck however you go.

Cloth diapers don't cost as much as someone else said. They should be only about $10 a dozen or less. I used mainly flat diapers with a few prefolds and plastic pants over them. You can buy diaper liners, which are disposable and very cheap. The diaper liner gets the poop on it and you just throw it away. Otherwise, you rinse the messy diaper in the toilet and then put it in the diaper pail. You will probably only need to wash diapers twice a week. Use your regular baby laundry detergent and borax. Some people add vinegar to freshen and whiten them. I have had four kids and used cloth with all of them.

you'll save tones of money.. Clean then out first if the have poop, buy a diaper soaking bucket,, or just use a covered pail or bucket. about 2 gallon size. no need to be fancy.they come in all colors.Soak them with a solution of 1/3 cup clorox and 1/3 cup of your favorite baby detergent. When the container is full, empty the liquid and wash them as you usually do. make sure if your going to buy cloth diapers to have at least 4 dozen so that you don't run out.

If you're an environmentalist it's worth it, but not by a huge margin. The trade off is between the water used to clean and the nearly permanent waste in the plastic of the diaper.

You clean them by removing the waste you can and washing them with bleach to kill germs. It's not as hard as people make out, and a lot of studies point toward it leading to faster potty training.

There's good and bad to both. I will say that it's a loss easier to have disposables initially because you don't have to touch anything wet or dirty.

I'd suggest doing both. Try having your baby in cloth at home, with disposable for outings.

If you can afford the start up costs, they are worth it. We can't afford the $500 or more dollars to put out at once. You wash them in the washing machine with 1/4-1/8th of your normal detergent, add in an extra rinse, and dry. Some people use a teensy bit of dish detergent instead as it causes less detergent build up and will keep them from wicking.

They aren't just pins and prefolds now. There are all in ones that fasten with snaps or velcro like disposables. And pockets that dry faster. They also come in awesome selections of fabrics and covers! All in ones and most pockets have a protection layer to keep them from leaking.

As for poo. NB breastfed poo you don't need to rinse out. It is mostly water anyway and will just wash out. Once the baby is older there is a sprayer you can attach to the toilet's valve that is just like the ones on your sink to quick rinse the nasty stuff. And you don't always have to do that as at a certin age it just "drops" in. (sorry if tmi!)

my friend does this, she says it is much cheaper, and environmentally better to.she just gets ones that look like underwear!.she puts a liner in them,so can throw away any poop, without it sticking to the cloth(sorry TMI!) then she just throws them in the wash and dries them with the rest of the laundry!. i also have heard of some companies who take the diapers away and replace them every week, but i am in UK,so not sure if that would be done where you are.the cloth ones are more work that regualr diapers, but if you are on budget then i would get them.

I used them on all 3 of my children.....at home only. You wash them in the washing machine just like clothes. Before I would wash them though, I had a diaper pail full of water with some detergent in it that I put them in to soak. I washed them every other day this way.

particularly some comments available on what's maximum suitable... i'm utilising a bamboo one sized all in a single diaper, so i do in no way could purchase yet another length, it adjusts. i admire the all in ones with the aid of fact i do no longer could be sure you carry a cover or inserts, yet examine heavily, some all in ones have "wallet" that require an insert. I easily have an open diaper pail, it smells much less... except your toddler is formula fed, then you certainly ought to prefer a closed one with the aid of fact formula toddler poop diapers are nasty. After she pees, I toss the diaper interior the open pail and after 2 or 3 days wash the burden. I easily have extensively utilized gDiapers and the flushable/compostable insert. i admire those besides, and use them on journeys out. some human beings do in contrast to them with the aid of fact they could get poo on the lining, sometimes (no longer generally) on the outer cover. it incredibly isn't any worse than coping with the textile diapers. you additionally can use the gDiapers with textile inserts, purchase them or make your guy or woman, particularly some varieties on line. in case you intend on utilising a blend of cloth and disposable, that's your maximum suitable guess considering which you basically could get used to a minimum of one device. it works quite lots the comparable notwithstanding while you're putting the paper or textile in them. i prefer to recommend 24 for textile, this is sufficient to cover you for a solid 3 days plus have some nonetheless waiting whilst washing. You don' t prefer greater, you incredibly do no longer prefer to attend greater effective than 3 days to bathe them to avert a probability mould. Couple of links below, plus a pair on the thank you to make your guy or woman inserts and diapers

well there OK i used to look after a baby that used them you put a cloth inside the cotton bottoms this catches the poop so you can remove that and bin it and take the cotton bottoms and wash them, then and replace with a clean dry one. you can get plastic type covers for the nappy that's on the child to make it water prove (doesn't leak). but they do smell bad babies will get nappy rash from any nappy if not dried and cleaned properly. i prefer using these recycle nappies on my baby but they are not cheap to be honest. but i am not all that keen in washing nappies in my washer lol.hope this helps.

when potty training these work much better, your kid will realize he has used the bathroom and want to get out of the diaper. the new diapers the kid don't realize when they use the bathroom. i would say go for them, you have to safety pin the corners which make sure they wont come undone. you just throw them in the washer to clean them.
