I have just been looking at market research jobs and most of them require you to speak a second language. Why is this??

You have to reach a larger audience that doesn't necessarily speak your native language (english).

I have a career in marketing research and don't speak a second language, but with all the outsourcing to China and India, it seems another professional will be destroyed in this country soon unless we rise up.

It depends on which markets you are researching and for what industries. Alot of household products are trying to reach out to ethnic and non-english speaking communities, so they may need bilingual market researchers.
