The side of this story that no one is discussing:

ten years ago the polar ice began to clear significantly. Maritime interests, shipping companies, meteorological services and the insurance companies that underwrite international shipping started publishing maps of new sea lanes across the previously ice choked regions.

The waters, now opened, encouraged a lot of previously ice bound Russian cities to expand their sea ports.

But our country has a stated policy of not believing in the global warming that created this reality. And since we don't accept global warming, even in this case where the evidence is overwhelming, then we didn't jump on the opportunities it presented. The Russians will benefit. And we will wallow in our ignorance.

Will it come to hostilities? Always possible. But we will look like fools, simply because we overlooked the opportunity in order to stay with our wrong headed denial of climactic change.

The water over the oil reserves is two miles deep. No one owns the oceans, so Russia can claim whatever they want.

I personally would like to see Russia develop the oil fields. If we try to do it in the US, we will be fighting, Democrats, left wing liberal loonies, tree huggers, enviro-wienies and every other nut case who is afraid some oil will spill onto the Artic ice cap.

War drums remind me of the timpani...

For the most part, I prefer the rhythm of congos and hand drums.

Salsa anyone?

Just like the Moon is American now? The flag raising was just a symbolic gesture. Relax.
