If you think the Creator is actually a force for goodness and decency, then yes, you are fairly Deist. Because Yaweh of the Old Testament says things like this:
Exodus 22:16 -- 22:18
When a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, and lies with her, he shall give the bride-price for her and make her his wife. But if her father refuses to give her to him, he shall pay an amount equal to the bride-price for virgins.
Exodus 21:20,21
When a slaveowner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner's property.

Yes. A lot of religous types have more than one side to their personality, and a punitive god seems to be an archaic concept even it fits the scripture.

Christianity is the dominant religion in America!
Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law and to set the precedent for all mankind to accept His eternal gift of Salvation!!
So, there was no need of sacrifice any longer, because they are made known to what is right and what is wrong, which would be - If you continue in sin, then will not receive the gift of eternal life, because no sacrifice is left for sins!
But if you accept His plan, then you can be set free from the bondage of sin, and will be eternally happy with Him in heaven where He sits at the Right Hand of the Throne of the Father!
Once you make that committment, then you are to no longer turn back to your old sinful lifestyle, for God cannot look upon sin, you must remain faithful!
To help you in your walk with Christ, read God's Word and ask God to give you understanding, and He will!
There is a common misconception that the Bible is "not" the written word of God, that is false, do not listen to them, that is the way for Satan to place doubt in your mind, and he will if you let him.
The Bible is the literal Word of God, His Holy Spirit came down and placed the His Word in the hearts and minds of those He chose to write it!!
So it is now up to you to accept or reject, being made aware of where your Soul will be when He returns for the final time!!
That is how it became the largest religion in the world, and led to the fall of the Roman empire!!
God bless!

You are a little confused.
When you read the newspaper, do you assume that everything in it, deliberately placed there by the editor, is things he personally agrees with and wants everyone to do?
It so, you would be mistaken.
Christianity (I am not religious) sees the Bible as inspired by God but not something they have to obey in every way because much of it is about their history/past and things that went WRONG, as well as why they went wrong. Some of it is simply lineages, other parts simple narrative of events that are background to more important events, etc.
These were the laws of the land at that time, made by men, not God, but perhaps reported in the Bible as a lesson to be shared today of what to avoid?
Clearer?

Deism is widespread in America and does not just pertain to Christianity or the Bible so please get a clue and do some research because if you wanted to ask a question about the old testament you should just ask that question.

I think if more people understood what deism meant that a lot of them would call themselves diests instead of something else.
