If you claim humility outrightly you probably are not, but if you are humble silently , then yes.

That is a great question, its value so much more in modern times when humility is considered as a negative quality hindering progress.
The combination of humility and honesty should always result in saying something like this.... I try to be humble but every once in a while my ego beats me.... because that is the truth.... no one can escape ego driven imperfection in humility... one who claims he IS humble is perhaps being honest (being ignorant of the fact that his very believing this is in fact a sign of the imperfection of his humility) but at the same time the claim is a sign of subtle arrogance that he is not even aware of.

I think that true humility is an honest recognition of our own worth. However, there definately is a fine line between self worth and being prideful. That distinction is where people that try to be humble fall a little short. For the most part, people that are humble, just are. They would not lay claim to humility because that would be prideful.

That is the single most interesting question I have come across on this site. Congratulations.
In my 'humble' opinion, people who claim to be 'humble' are neither honest nor arrogant (which requires some courage). Just insincere and cowardly.
True humility shines through like a light and is seen by others - not claimed by the person himself/herself, is it?

Well, arrogance is the opposite of humility.
If admiting to being humble is arrogant, then laying claim to humility is not humble. So you would be arrogant.
So, I guess to be truly humble, you could never say that you are... never assume that you are. It would have to be a trait bestowed to you by others...you could not give that title to yourself.
I guess.
Now I have a headache.....

I don't think you can call yourself humble or say that you have humility, because the very act of doing so is arrogance.

A person who has true humility, does not even think about it, let alone claim to have it.
I once said jokingly, "my greatest character trait is my humility".

The truly humble person needs no claim to humility.
The truely wise, needs no claim to anything.

So does it mean - by what all people here say - that laying claim to arrogance is humble, please let me know
