I have a 98 Intrepid that has less than 40k miles. sinve I've had the car, I've had 7 new batteris put in. The radio is urned off, no interior or trunk light is on. Two different mechanics tested the alternator and that is fine. The stater is also good.

The battery is locaed in the passenger side wheel well, so there are 2 cable that are attached to the battery comin up and case it needs to be jumped. I have no idea where the battery losin power or what could be drawing from it. I also HIGHLY doubt, I could have gotten 7 bad batteries in a row.

Can anyone help?

Why did you replace the batteries rather than just recharging one? You do not drive much, it seems that you do under 4000 miles a year. If you leave the car sitting for long periods of time (3-4 weeks between starting, and do not take the car far, it may just be that the computer and clock are drawing the power down, and you do not drive the car far enough to recharge the battery fully! If you park the car in a garage with electrical power, get a "float charger" which you attach to the jump ports and will keep the battery charged!

If the car is parked outdoors, you can get a solar panel charger that will plug into the cigarette lighter or power port and will use the sunlight to keep the battery charged.

Agreed, not likely you'd get seven bad batteries in a row, so there has to be something drawing down the battery.

I'd suggest you find a competent mechanic (and I apologize that two in a row have not been) to find, and fix the problem. Don't stop at testing the alternator and starter, find the problem.

Also, you say 7 bad batteries. Did you check the batteries before replacing them? They may have just been dead and needed to be charged, not bad. If they were bad, what was wrong with them? Melted posts would be an indication of a short somewhere, etc.

Again, find a decent mechanic and get it checked out and fixed. I wish you well with it.

You have a bad relay. Put an OHM meter between the negative post and the battery. With everything off start pulling fusses. When the current draw drops down to less then .1 amps then you have found where the draw is. Replace that relay and you'll end your troubles.

YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.

Is the battery loose enough to short against the metal wheelwell when you drive and bounce around??? Testing a non moving car indicates a drain when moving or a short and it is burning the cells of the battery.
