UF and FSU are the top two in the state. University of Miami is a good school also but it is a private school so a lot more expensive than the state schools but you are in the middle of Miami and a ton of stuff to do.

University of Florida is in Gainesville, FL and it is a small city. You can pretty much hit every club and bar in a couple of weekends. Not much to do after that. It is a large campus with the 4th largest student population in the country. Of course this means you are treated more like cattle than students. It is tough to get into UF and getting tougher so you will need good credentials.

Florida State University is in Tallahassee, FL and it is about twice the size of Gainesville. It is closer to beaches and a nice campus. It is easier to get into FSU than UF. FSU also has a more diverse campus than UF.

I'll agree with everyone that the University of Florida seems like the best bet. Alternatively, although not as big (but not tiny either), the University of Miami, with a good reputation, a GORGEOUS campus, and a great location, would be my idea of a dream school.

As a Dawg I hate to say it, but the flagship school, the Univerisity of Florida, best fits the criteria you presented, especially among the major schools. A good mid-major school is U. of Central Florida.
