Isotope 2007 - I hear you. We will probably have to get rid of TV entirely or buy the DVDs from BBC, A & E, and the National Geographic catalogs!

I don't have cable, or dish, I just use the old reliable roof antenna. I can't see paying for something when you can have it for free. If you subscribe to cable or whatever, all you get are a bunch of channels, you never want or watch. And by the time you figure out what is on and when ,the program you wanted to watch is half over. Never saw the Sopranos, and don't care. Plus the movies they keep re-runing them and re-running them over and over. And most of them I have already seen, as I have gone to the movie, or rented the CD. I get 7 or 8 local channels and that is just fine with me. The ones I watch and the other ones on at the same time I tape. But I guess next year I will have to buy a digital converter box, when they delete all of the analog and swich all to digital.
I guess some people have no choice as they live in an area that does not get good reception, or it comes with their apartment.

Well, I live in Canada as well, and we have Rogers Cable. Shaw only has the monopoly on the west coast. Rogers has it from Ontario on to the east coast I think.

Whatever happened to free market enterprise. I pay $59 per month for basic cable PLUS the ones I really watch which are HGTV and Discovery. I would like to have the choice of service between providers, if that were possible.

The trouble in Canada is that there are only a few large conglomerates that own EVERYTHING to do with communications--Rogers and Bell/Globemedia that I am aware of.

I am in Idaho--did the math, my cell and a land line for nothing but a computer hook was 28, cell 48. I now have a 3 in one package with Cable One, it is 115 a month for lightening fast computer hook, unlimited long distance any time any day and my TV stations. I no longer have the cell, I didn't use it that much and everyone seems to have one so wave your hand and they will call for you. So far so good, I am pleased, it took them a while to get it all ironed out they had line problems but once that was resolved I'm happy, spendy but what isn't, and I figure at my age it is fine to indulge myself.

In Canada Shaw has a monopoly, I pay $57 plus taxes for channels I dont watch and have no interest in ever watching, four sports channels, MTV, etc

It is common to flip through the channels and ALL thats on is Reality shows, top pastry chef, top hair dresser, top photographer, survivial guy, survival women, just for laughs, just gags, girls acting badly, who's the next ___ you fill in the blanks, re-runs of old shows, any movies are at least 20 years old, and they show the same movie over and over and over ....

A&E has been completely destroyed, CSI and Law and Order and they are ALL re-runs, and then there's HGTV and their program "who's the next host" "who's the next designer" have ruined that for me -

So I pay $57 for Discovery Channel, History Channel and HGTV, thats pretty expensive.

It seems everytime I like a show its taken off -

I'm in Milwaukee. We had AT&T/SBC, but we live in an apartment and they wouldn't put their dish on the roof. We had been using their service just for TV reception, phone and internet. So we switched to TimeWarner for phone/cable/internet and their cost is about $54/month, down from $75 with AT&T.

I can see why [comcast] - they would not be my choice. I am happy with my service.....I have Cox and a bundled package of high speed internet, telephone and cable for just a bit over $100 mo. There customer service is outstanding also.

Mine would be $50 plus tax for expanded basic, which is exactly the reason that I had it disconnected! Comcast is ridiculous!
