Could my interest in model railroading be some sort of OCD, or some other mental issue that needs to be resolved?

No, there's nothing wrong with trains.
It's a good honest hobby.
I mean, at least you get to play with the little trains, instead of gambling the loot on horses or buying whiskey or something..

no a lot of people do it....i think it probably calms you which a lot of peoples hobbies do! I would be worried if you become obsessed with it!
