If there was a worldwide epidemic, such as The Bird Flu, that killed suddenly and only a handful of people survived in each state or country, how do you think people would re-group and become whole again?

We are talking a "WORLD WIDE DISASTER" in this scenario. There is no power and our food and water supplies are contaminated! With just a few survivors, how would we put our world back together?

It would take hundreds of years to regroup, and rebuild if only a handful of people survived an epidemic of this proportion.
The ones left would be thrown into a dark age of scavangers, hunters, gatherers, We would have it better than the ancient Neanderthal, since many tools would already be here to take and use, but times would be tough, the ones that had help from others in their group would fare better. Ones that were alone, could find it extremely difficult. Many would die just from not having clean water. Food would be difficult to come by if you lived in a city. The ones that could hunt, farm and fish, live off the land would survive. Tribes eventually would be formed, as in the past, much knowledge would be lost for ever. Things would have to be relearned. Communication with others would be lost. The best lesson to learn from this would be to learn to live off the land, that's our only chance in this circumstance. Could take thousands of years to get back to where we are today.

In America no. There are too many guns and those who survived would end up shooting even more people dead out of paranoia. It would be total anarchy.
In some other countries like Australia and New Zealand, where there are hardly any guns and advanced medical care, yes people would learn to get along.

Have you seen the movie, Deep Impact?
In that movie an Extermination Level Meteor is supposed to hit, so the US got a cave system going to house 1 million pre-selected people for a couple years.
I think that is what we would/should/could do in a crisis. get underground and take what supplies you can...

that may be just what this world needs, to get back to it's begining. perhaps the survivors would realize the errors in our ways and create a different world, a better world.
but given human history, curruption seems almost inevidable, lust for power and control are like human nature it seems. perhaps we will never learn.

Provided I was one of the survivors, I wouldn't want to regroup - except maybe with a doctor.
