The reason being: comedy has changed. The observational and 'real' comedy that is performed today is simply an exaggeration of real life. It is aimed at a young audience - who, being 17, I should belong to - and lacks any of the panache of the old greats.

Try Frankie Boyle, up and coming comedian. I also think Dara O' Briain is very good at the moment. These two, I feel, are the best on offer at the moment as the construction and delivery of their jokes is very good.

I like Lee Evans, he is so funny!!!
And doesn't have to rely on material based on religion, racism and the other subjects that other comedians use to get a laugh!!!

Peter Kay is not funny, and Ricky Gervais is just a prat!!!

Peter Kay is alright, but I just don't get Ricky Gervais (why is he allowed out at concerts the crowd never gets it)

There are no more great comics anymore because everything's gone p.c. It's not like back in the day when comedians didn't have to dumb down or mince words to avoid offending anybody. Back then, if you got offended by a performer's act, too bad. Go home or tune out. Nowadays it's 'Oh, you can't say that about this group' and 'You can't make fun of that issue' and so on. All we're left with now are a bunch of tragically unfunny twenty-somethings with material so dry and uninteresting that it is laughable in itself.

I share your views on Kay and Gervais, they are so over rated, gervais isn't funny at all and at best Kay is ammusing in parts. The best comedy folk are Ben Elton and Rik Mayel/Adrian Edmenson, but they've not done anything for a while. Must admit i think Russel Brand is brilliant but even he's not on very much.

I actually wuite like Gervais and Kay! But the best comedian has to be Lee Evans!! Ive always liked him! And the Latest best comedian is Alan Carr!!!!!! He cracks me up! I also like Bill Baily, Phil Jupitas, that bloke who was in black books is also quite funny. Also I think Chris Moyles and comedy Dave on Radio 1 every day is quite funny! I hate Jimmy Carr though...hes rubbish!

Profanity and cleverness has exceeded mental gymnastics and deep thorkus and slapstick..Gervais plays it understated though..he's cool...the game has changed..like everything else that's evolution...I still have discs of Buster Keaton,Stooges etc etc..that's Life. PS Ross Noble is a super funny animal..

How about Chris Morris - you just can't say that Brass Eye/ Nathan Barley are sanitised? He cares not for the confines that pressure groups and do gooders try to press on everyone....

I agree. Remember when Saturday Night Live used to be funny? Eddie Murphy was on then as were the "cheerleaders" and the copy guy. I just don't like to watch it anymore.
