They don't do blood tests or anything, so why do they make you wait?

It could be that it takes that long to get through the applications or maybe they are checking to see if you are related or already married.

They do not want people to rush in to anything- after you apply for the marriage license they give you at least 3 days to change your mind in order to avoid annulments, etc.

To give you 3 days to think it over... so you aren't just drunk at the moment or having a wild thought...

Trust me, take the 3 days ... it has taken me now 11 months to get out of the marriage!

Trust me, the three day wait is a good thing. There is no reason that you should marry that same day or the next. The wait is to make sure you REALLY want to do it.

To make sure you are serious. To make sure you aren't just getting married on a whim, or being coorsed into it. To make sure you aren't in some drug or drunken state thinking you are in love and then wake up the next day married and like WTF. I think three days isn't long enough, I think they should make people wait like 6 months. Make sure they are certain that marriage is what they mean when they say "I do".

most states do that i think it's to make sure you don't go out and get married after just a quick thought and to make sure you are serious and take marriage seriously and that it isn't a decision made lightly in one day.

So you don't get married and immediately change your mind! Would that Vegas did that... the marriage business there would totally fold!

To prevent "Britney Spears" marriages where you get married while drunk and then get it annulled 55 hours later.

Lets you sober up prior to walking down the isle. Just in case you realize that you don't love them once you are sober.
