A lot of good posts. HOWEVER, none have mentioned the possibility of a failed DPFE sensor. If it is a 2001 B4000, that means it is equipped with the 4.0L SOHC V6 engine. DO NOT replace the EGR valve. EGR valves almost NEVER fail on Ford products. If you have a scan tool that reads live data, check what your DPFE volts are at idle. If it's anything other than 0.50 volts, your DPFE sensor has failed. To repair requires replacement. Go to your nearest Ford dealer and ask for "basic" part number 9J460 to get the part you need. It is the small plastic box with two rubber hoses attached to it and an electrical connector. Hope this helps.

The P411 code indicates the EGR valve is not functioning properly. The Exhaust Gas Relief valve does exactly what it's name indicates. They are exposed to high amounts of carbon every time the vehicle is run, particularly when it's driven in town.

This will not cause the vehicle to fail but will cause a significant drop in fuel mileage with a bit of power loss. My first recommendation is to find the EGR valve body (it should be easy to spot...look up EGR on google images if you don't know what it looks like) and spray it heavily with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. This will often times clear out the carbon and "break" the valve free. After spraying the valve remove the positive battery terminal for a few minutes and turn the key to "ON" to allow the PCM to clear any registered codes.

If the service engine light comes back on right away you'll have to replace the unit to correct the problem. They are fairly simple to replace (usually 2 bolts) and can vary in price from $60 - $150. Your truck should be on the lower part of the price scale. If you're uncomfortable replacing it yourself be sure to price the part out locally and present it to the mechanic before requesting the repair. This helps to avoid getting overcharged.

On a final note the insufficient flow condition can be caused by blockage in the system and not the valve. This is usually more rare.

Hope this helps!

The most likely scenairo is the EGR valve is clogged with carbon and is not opening properly.

Simply remove the EGR valve and clean it so it moves freely.

The Mazda B4000 truck should be similar.

it means your EGR valve is probably clogged up with carbon deposits and is restricting airflow back into the intake. It needs to be cleaned out or replaced...

YOU CAN RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BY TAKING OFF THE BATTERY CABLES AND LEAVING THEM OFF FOR 30 MINUTES. THEN PUT THEM BACK ON AND START THE ENGINE AND TIME HOW LONG IT TAKE FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. YOU CAN TELL YOUR MECHANIC HOW LONG IT TAKES TO COME ON. YOU MAY HAVE TO CHANGE THE EGR VALVE. NOT TOO HARD TO DO YOURSELF BUT YOU NEED SPECIAL TOOLS, A SPECIAL SOCKET (15.00) AND A LONG EXTENSION BAR FOR YOU WRENCH. NOTE: SOMETIMES THESE CARS GIVE OFF FALSE READINGS AND THEY DON'T MEAN ANYTHING. THAT'S WHY I SAY TO RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. IT MAY NOT COME ON. IF IT DOES HAVE YOUR MECHANIC PUT THE CAR ON THE COMPUTER TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. IT'S WORTH THE COST. DON'T LET THEM JUST CHANGE THINGS.
