in a small town of 20 banks tells me that there is lots of hidden wealth. The banks don't set up shop in areas where they feel there is no opportunity to open accounts and sell loans.

I live in a town with about 3000 people and we have 4, so that's about right. Roughly 1 bank per 1000 residents. But, it is a quietly wealthy town, too, so that may account for some of it. Lots of farmers or lots of new construction going on = lots of banks setting up shop. Lots of banks in an area is a good thing.

Banks are willing to pay top dollar for prime retail space.They're there because they can be.It's all about the "money"....bottom line.*you'd be surprised at those that "don't" want to drive or walk that extra block or two for a fee-free cash withdrawal*
