I didn't know there was a problem. Life is way too short for such nonsense. Can't we just all get along here & enjoy ourselves?

Well, generally, it's either based on ludicrous ignorant ideas like the British have bad teeth, or possibly idealistic differences. For example, the UK has the world's strongest regulations against gun ownership, where in the US it's much easier to own a gun, just as one example. Also, at the moment, a lot of British people resent the UK's involvement in the Iraq War, and blame America for it. This is particularly true as while the UK went to war with America, the US has so far been reluctant to make compromises for the British.
However, it must also be recognised that the 'special relationship' is still incredibly strong, and is very important for both the US and the UK.

Dunno. I'm from Britain and lots of people here (not saying its my opinion) think American's are too dramatic and far-fetched "like ohhh myyyyy god!". They also say that Americans think America is in the centre of the world and nobody else exists (but I don't think that statement is true).
Americans seem to say Brits have bad teeth and once on a chatroom an American said "all Brits are fat" to me. I'm not judging but it is actually a fact that America has a weight problem MUCH bigger than that of the UK (I have lived in both places). Although Britain's kids are starting to get overweight.
These are just stereotypes and I want to make clear: I have nothing against Americans and I would never generalise a community!

The Americans are really jealous because the Brits have all the great tasting beer and love to share.
How about a cold PINT lads?
Legal Notice - this is actually an American acting as a Brit to get more great tasting beer, all comments should be assumed as disingenuous.

No problem. Most of what I've ever heard is good natured joking around. My MIL is English and my FIL American (of German Decent) and they get along fine. Why blow it out of proportion by caling it a big problem?
I've also heard that the Jews are greedy, Hispanics are dishonest, Polish are stupid, Irish are drunks. Every nationality has certain stereotype associated with it, the trick is not to feed into them. Sometimes even those with good intentions make the streotypes worse by being concerned about them. I say just drop it and be the best person you can be, and always remember that stereotypes aren't necessarily true, why use a few bad examples to jusge an entire country?

Americans tend to have arrogance toward Brits, probably due to the fact that the origins of the U.S.A are predominately, British. now that the children of Britain have created enough power to dominate the planet, they show distain toward their origin. like the child that grows to be better off than the parent, they like to think that they know everything. as far as Brits go, it could be jealousy towards the American way of life, that things seem to be better and bigger over the pond and that they seem to have the patriotic vigour that this country has lost in its decline from the Empire.
I love my Country (England) and I hope that someday Brits will have the same love of their country as the Americans.
but I also wish Americans would stop forcing themselves on the rest of the planet and I really hop the The Prime-Minister will not have is head up the Presidents **** like Blair!

LOL, small differences make big arguments.
Remember that up until the early 1900's, Britian and the good ol' US of A were fighting wars against each other. The US's oldest ally is France, and the British and France have been fighting each other for over twice as long as the US has been in existance.
So as France is the US's oldest ally, you would expect the US to slang the British.
When I, (An American) took my Wife, (British) to live in the States, we were around the Delaware vally area of Pennsylvania / New Jersey. Every year, several times a year, they re-enact the battles of the Revolutionary War. At those times, when they heard my wife's accent, they slagged her as being British and told her to leave the country (and she has perfect teeth).
But any other time of the year, they loved her accent and made her very welcome.
History - read and understand it, or repeat it. Your choice.

My brother, who is British, is getting married to a girl from North Carolina sometime next year. She's been over to stop for six months and thought the people and the place was great only not sunny enough. Luckily for her she went back before all the floods otherwise she would have had something to say about the weather
