I get questions like yours all the time over the phone.
First things first smoke outside. Or move outside so you dont have to get up off the couch to walk to the door.
Second. Paint all the walls in the house with two coats or more of paint. Washing walls is pointless.
Third. Get the carpets professionally cleaned and find a company that uses special chemicals for smoke damage. Other alternative is to rip out the carpets.
Fourth. Get a maid service in to do a serious clean on the house. Tell them you smoke so they can bring heavy duty cleaners.
Fifth. Take all fabric drapes down and have them dry cleaned or throw them out. At this point it might be better to throw them out.
Sixth. Take all your clothes and bed sheets to the dry cleaner.
Any fabric in the house needs to be cleaned or thrown out.

You do all that and I will bet it smells a hell of allot better!

Biggest "KEY" here is to NOT SMOKE INSIDE ANYMORE!!!

Best of luck to you and while your at it get a lawyer and sue the cigarette companies for making your life hell!

I recently moved into a home where there were acouple of smokers... I used baking soda on the carpets and left it on overnight. I also washed the walls with a solution of TSP or trisodium phosphate.. To take off the "residue" from tar/smoke.. I also washed the vertical blinds in the bathtub with some dishsoap and windows with nonsudsing ammonia/newspaper... I was able to get rid of the smell... However, no one in my immediate family smokes... So, for you it might be short lived....Also, you can put a bit of baking soda in the bottom of the ashtray....For your furniture you can try ZORBEX/ODORBAN.. It's cheaper/better than febreeze.... Good luck

Ex smoker here. I had to try to get rid of many years worth of smoke inside my home. No air freshener works. I mean NONE. But I can honestly say that no one who doesn't know me, is even aware that I ever smoked. This may seem drastic but it works.

Wash/clean all soft surfaces. Clean your upholstery, curtains, carpet, everything fabric. Unfortunately, since you still smoke, you won't be able to get rid of it entirely. It will be on your clothing but the smell will be more or less confined to that. That's assuming of course, that you're smoking outside now.

Wash all hard surfaces: Blinds, walls, mirrors, windows, cabinets, appliances, wall hangings, ceiling, etc. Better yet, if you can, repaint your walls. That helps tremendously. But even if you can't do that, just thoroughly cleaning them will work.

Several months after doing my thorough cleaning to get rid of the odor, I was digging through my closet to find a blanket. I had one washed and kept in a plastic storage bag. I pulled it out and it reeked of old stale smoke. Had to rewash it. That's how strong that odor is. It never goes away until it's cleaned.

If you mean temporarily spray some vinegar water all around.Just put a fan on to allow it to dry.The best way,and lasts a long time, is to wipe the walls in the room you smoke the most in.Use vinegar water and just keep wiping and changing the water. It smells and then when dry deodorizes...Try it.

If you have the smell then you also have the film on walls and ceilings, You need to clean the walls and ceilings with a household cleaner and sponge, then you can work on the continues smell from the smoking by using those smokers candles that help eliminate the smell, you can also use the Oust automatic air cleaner they help too.
I hope I have helped with your question.

i think you can get an ashtray that has a motorized fan or filter. i think i saw it in a catalog but it aint cheap. ... also consider a gel absorbent e.g. natural magic dot com ... i assume it works through gasses. those are cheap - about $6 for a 14 ounce tub. i don't smoke but I buy natural magic at the pharmacy. i think you can find it at KMart too
