This week, a timid Congress caved in to President Bush and his demand for more out-of-control authority to spy on Americans...
Aren’t you sick and tired of Congress failing to defend freedom from Bush administration?

The problem is both the Bush Administration and the Congress. Bush is totally wacked and in his own dream world, and Congress is run by special interests. Meanwhile the American people can just go pound salt.

If you think it's strange, then pick up a history book. Whenever a country goes to war, it clamps down on its citizens freedoms in an effort to control the war. The US cannot afford to have terrorists using the banking and communications infrastructure to carry out attacks, are you advocating freedom for these people too? I don't see any mention of a right to privacy in the bill of rights, and is a phone conversation really private? I mean, you don't own the network, you didn't create it, and you aren't forced to use it. Does anyone stop using the phone because their conversations could be monitored? No. They just come on YA and whine about it because they hate the current administration.

That is the ultimate paradox isn't it? Its a delicate line between protection and power grab.
And of course thats the way dictator's get built (not saying Bush is one relax) but a need is present and somebody steps in and says they're going to fill it and people put too much faith in him/her. So once you've handed over that initial blank check, you're sinking already. Its our responsibility to keep congress in line. They're depending on us forgetting or getting too busy.

No, the legislation is not for "out-of-control authority", it very specifically addresses holes in the information-gathering programs, so that the government can better intercept enemy signal traffic.
It specifically does not allow for spying on Americans - that requires approval from the FISA court.
You are severely misinformed, and your ignorance is not good for this country.

As for "fighting for freedom", if the left is so adamant about fighting for freedom, why is the military majority conservative? If the left is all for freedom, why do they seek to have government take over their health care and retirement? Why do they want the government to shackle industries and institute price controls or profit limits? If the left is so into freedom, why do they want to dictate whether people can smoke in their privately owned businesses, and why do they want to control and limit peoples' choices by having government control growth?
No, I don't see the left as being much interested in freedom, they just want to be free to do as they will, but not have to pay for it. Just like children.

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard.
Sorry man,...but I think you have taken too many things for granted. Read up on history.
Oh...and the reason why Congress defend Bush's Administation's stance is become they came to their senses.
In other words, they see reality.

Your premises are wildly inaccurate.
Bush is operating within the authority granted to him by the Constitution. If Congress attempts to limit that authority, it is they who are acting unconstitutionally.
I fear that my liberty to receive medical treatment and to listen to the opinions I want to hear on broadcasts will be limited, and it's not Bush who is trying to do that.

And no doubt you would be one of the first in line to scream, "How could Bush let this happen? Why didn't he do ________?" if in fact there were another terrorist attack. I am so sick of all the blame mongers.
