In February 2005, Smith was released by the Arizona Cardinals, and signed a one day contract for no money with his former team (Dallas Cowboys)- after which he immediately retired as a Cowboy as that was the team he played for from 1990-2002

He'll go in as a Cowboy for sure. You don't go into the Hall of Fame as a member of the team you only spent two relatively meaningless years with. He's even acknowledged that going to play in Arizona made him appreciate all the years he spent with the Cowboys.

He retired a Cowboy. He left the Cardinals and signed a 1 day contract with the Cowboys and retired. It is very common amoung players to do that to retire on the team the play the most for or want to retire as.
