I just read a small part of taking charge of your fertility on line regarding taking your basal temperature. Now when you take your temp 1st thing in the morning if you are going to start ovulating is it going to be higher?then the other days? Also can I use a digital or does it have to be a certain kind? Sorry I am new to this checking your temp thing?
Is it the kind of thermometer you have to read the lines because i really don't know. I have been using the Ovulation strips for 6 months and nothing so i thought maybe this will work?Any help would be greatley appreciated Thank-You

I used just a regular digital thermometer, but you can buy a basal thermometer for about $15 at Walgreeens if you'd like. You take your temp each morning at the same time before getting out of bed or speaking. Your temp starts out low after your period. The day of ovulation there is sometimes a dip in temps, then the day after they go up. Mine would rise slowly but some people's shoot right up. They stay elevated until either the day before or of your period, or the stay up if you are pregnant. I knew I was pregnant when my stayed up the day I wasa supposed to start my period. My temos were 97.1-97.4 before ovulation and 97.6-98.2 after.

I tracked all this on fertilityfriend.com. The first 30 days are free and you just plug the numbers in and they keep track of it and create your chart. I only did this for 1 month and I got pregnant and I never ended up paying for the service. You also plug in symptoms you are having and CM.

Use a digital Basal Thermometer availible at any drug store (Walgreens is where I got mine). Take your temp first thing in the morning before you get up, move around, before you talk, basically before you do anything (it's a hassle at first, but you get used to it). Do it at the same time every day (even the weekends) and record it on a note pad beside your bed. When you get a chance, I would check out www.fertilityfriend.com. It's been a lifesaver for me! They offer a free charting course online that will give you tons of info on it. Plus, you can record your temps into a chart on this website and it is a lot easier than the old pen and paper routine. Good luck!

Timing is everything when it comes to conceiving a child, in order to become pregnant your egg and sperm must meet at the right time.

Timing is the main reason healthy couples are labeled as “infertile” by a health professional, if your menstrual cycle is not exactly 28 days most ovulation calculators will not help you all that much.

To figure out exactly when you should be trying to conceive you’ll want to start with an ovulation calculator to get a general idea of when you should start looking for sings of ovulation.

Now that you know about when you should ovulate (you did click the link right?) you’ll want to start tracking your Basal body temperature when you first wake up in the morning starting about 7 days prior to this date.

You normal body temperature should be between 97 and 97.7 degrees, on the day of ovulation you temperature will jump up by about .5 degrees on a basel thermometer.

During your first cycle using this method…
Try to make love at least every other morning starting 7 days prior to the date provided by the calculator until 3 days after. This will give you the broadest chances of getting pregnant during your first cycle without the knowledge of exactly when you’re about to ovulate.

Once you have ovulated you’ll want to compare this to when the calculator told you, add or subtract the difference to the calculators results for the next two months and you’ve got your peak fertility points.

Continue to monitor your body temperature every morning charting the results, if after 18-20 days your temperature has not dropped back down put a smile on your face, cross your fingers, and take a home pregnancy test.

During your following cycles…
If you don’t succeed in the first month, don’t get discouraged!

Three days prior to your peak fertility point for coming cycles you’ll want to make love every morning until 2 days after your peak fertility point to maximize the chances that the magic of conception can occur.

Things to remember while you’re trying to conceive…

Children are born from love, enjoy each other!
Start on prenatal vitamins even while you’re trying.
Pregnancy does not always happen exactly when you want

Your temperature gets slightly higher, but you need a basal body temperature thermometer. You can get them at any drug store and they look the same, but are marked differently to show smaller differentiations in temperature. They may have a guide with them that will help you to see how to do this. You really need to keep a diary or chart over time to do this properly. Good luck

it's best to use digital, and usually the day of ovulation your temp drops, and after ovulation it rises, and stays high until your next period where it will drop a bit. good luck.
