I am having problems keeping them alive in my pond. There are fish in the water also so I cannot put fertilizer in there for them. Does anyone know what I can do? I have over 400 in there and this morning they are really brown rather then green. TIA.

I use to have the same problem. I have goldfish and koi in my pond, do you have fish in your pond? The reason for asking is it can make a difference. The fish LOVE to eat the little white roots on the bottom therefore your plants wind up looking pretty sad. The way I found out is there is a place about 80 miles away for pond supplies and they have a free monthly news letter you can subscribe to.

The information you get is invaluable. I emailed them about my water hyacinths and that's what they told me. I started leaving them to the sides until they have a chance to start growing then when they are in full swing and bloom I let the fish have their fun eating them of course they don't look too pretty.

Couple of articles from the news letter
Don't let your Koi get a Sunburn! Yes! That's right! Koi can get a sunburn! These are the hot days of summer and in ponds located in full sun we need to make sure there are pond plants that let our pond fish get out of the sun when needed. We have prepared a summer check list, to help you keep the pond in tip top shape and the fish healthy at this time of year. We have also added several new instructional videos (like how to prune Water Lilies) and then, of course, there are our easy to read free pond e-books (try "Basic Pond Care") to help keep your pond looking its best all summer long!
Koi like treats! Try a piece of orange, a strawberry or a slice of Banana...well fed Koi are healthier, their colors are brighter (and they poop less - keeping the pond cleaner)!

The link below will give you reason and ways to correct the problem. It also includes the fish factor. My goldfish eat them as well. EXCELLENT INFORMATION BELOW

Well they are tropical plants so they need warm weather. If it was cold last night where you are that may have hurt them. For them to be healthy and bloom you NEED liquid aquatic fertilizer! (I live by it) They have special kinds that dont hurt the fish....go to your local water garden supplier and ask for a fertilizer that wont harm the fish
