Mr. President. When are you going to help the ordinary "man". This great country has the resourses yet the average man has to work his tail off to make ends meet evey month. Don't you think it's about time you helped US here in the USA instead of just helping other people around the world. do you know the old saying CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.
Lower gas prices, so the average "joe" can at least afford to drive to work.
Lower mortgage rates so that the average "joe" can afford a home for his family.
Lower taxes so that the average "Joe is not loosing a quarter of his income to the government.
You probably don't remember what it's like, to not be able to afford the little things like buying your chld a new pair of shoes for the start of School. Living in the USA is becoming unbearably expensive.
Go and have a look at the price of food. When was the last time you visited a Grocery Store, and I'm not talking about the Gourmet grocery stores . Help your self by helping the people

OK libsticker , how do I change it?
And To TOM. you don't know what you're talking about. it's the average "Joe" that keeps this country going. I'm talking about people like Bus drivers, postmen, factory workers, they're all regular "Workers" not bums. the average "joe is NOT a bum but a hardworking Father, Son, Husband. If you have nothing helpful to contribute, keep your snide remars to your self.

Ladies and gentlemen who answered my question in the negative. The reason I posed this question, is, Not because I or my family are hurting, by any means. but because every day I see Families in stores bickering about the prices, can't afford this or that, and people putting $5. worth of gas in their car in stead of being able to fill the gas tank to the top. An old man at A Dollar General store with a car so broken down I couldn't believe it, and he was buying a small can of oil to keep it going. My intentions were good, for OTHER poorer people. but I seem to have stired up a hornets nest of the ABOVE average JOE who can afford these things and maybe thinks the rest of the world are just a lazy load of bums.. which is NOT true. Some people in this country DO need help. like seniors for instance. So where do they go for help? Think about your own family, if you were suddenly put out of work, like the many homeless in New York alone. What do they do. they are not all bums either.

You addressed this to the wrong person, change the address to Congress and you might have a point.
Edit: You change it by writing congress and tell them what you want. You change it by holding them accountable at the polls. The President does not make laws. He signs them or vetoes them, and Congress has the power to over ride a veto. They just need to do their job.

The president has the power to lower gas prices? Supply and demand sets gas prices.
The president can lower mortgage rates? I don't think so. How much lower can they get anyway? More people own there own homes in America than at any time in history.
Hasn't he been responsible for the largest tax cut in history? Taxes are at the lowest level they've been in three generations. I'd like them lower too but jeez lady. That is a big factor in why unemployment is at an all time low and the economy is churning right along.
If you think it's unbearably expensive in the US, just go try Europe. In Germany you can pay the equivalent of about 12 bucks a gallon for gas alone.
But you're right, he probably hasn't visited a grocery store lately. Even a gourmet one.

Pie in the sky.
First, the President has no control over oil prices, not even the oil barron in th White House now.
Secondly, He doesn't control mortgage rates. The rate is also not the problem. Rates are among the lowest they have been. People got easy loans and couldn't pay off that's the problem there.
Supposedly we have already got tax cuts for everybody. If you are not feeling the affect neither am I. Our buying power has gone the way of the dodo. While we may make as much or more than we did 6 years ago that buys much less.
The President also doesn't control the price of food. That is determined by supply and demand together with weather and other factors. It is not simple.
As much as I can't stand George W. Bush I think we need to pin on him what he is responsible for and not those things he is not.

First, as the author of the Constitution, James Madison, said, charity is not part of the legislative duty of government.
The government has no control over gas prices, unless you mean eliminating all the government taxes on it.
The government has no control over mortgage rates.
And it was Bush and the Republicans who lowered taxes, so that the bottom 50% of earners pay no income tax at all, even though they must pay their Social Security and Medicare taxes.
I ate a lot of beans and rice in my day. But I also realized that it wasn't the government's problem - it was MY problem. I also realized that I did not have a right to live better by taking money from other people through confiscatory taxation.
Many people who I see complain about $$ and who want a piece of others' $$, are often not good stewards of their own $$.
Many people who are working in low paying jobs are there because, even though they did not have many opportunities, they didn't take advantage of any of them.

Dear Audrey,
thanks for writing. As you probably do not realize, I have no control over global gasoline prices, nor has any other President. I do not control the real estate market either, but the liberal section 8 housing reform hasnt helped matters either. Your taxes are lower now than they were under the former President, and are much lower than they would be under Hillary. Democrats have consistantly voted against my tax reduction efforts. Perhaps, you make look around you at the people not working and wonder why they live better than you, well, thats where your tax money is going, and when we tried to cut them off, the liberals accused me of not wanting to help the poor. But the fact remains that your taxes are the lowest they have ever been.
I sympathize with your plight,on the shoe issue. It's been sometime since i bought the twins shoes, you know they are older now, and buy their own shoes.
I have not been to the grocery store lately, but can only imagine what prices must be like, since the libs want to tax the hell out of gasoline, which relates to higher costs at the market. you see, the food has to be delivered, and those darn trucks wont run on water, despite what al gore tells you. Union labor is not helping, when they demand such high wages that employers are forced to outsource or loose the company.
I would love to have charity to begin right here in the States, But i am going to have to cut the non workers off of welfare, and cut some socail programs too, like planned parethood. And i am sure your liberal partners wont like that much, and they cant pander votes without offering a handout.
Best Regards...W

How would you suggest I lower gas prices? The environmentalists will not allow us to build any new refineries. No new ones have been built since the 70's. They all are working at maximum capacity to keep up with the demand. any glitch like a hurricane or breakdown has an adverse affect on supply thus price goes up. The environmentalists and Liberals will not allow us to drill for any of our own oil. Thus any instability in the Middle East causes a jump in oil prices.
The Fed controls the interest rates. I have nothing to do with it. It would be a VERY bad idea for me to put controls or caps on interest rates. Besides, they are not bad. Don't buy a 2100 sq ft brick home in an exclusive gated community.
Lower taxes? I have. I want to make those cuts permanent but the Democrats in Congress are going to let them expire.
If you think taxes and fuel are high now, wait until the next Sheriff gets in town.

the president, no matter who it is can not change gas prices, mortgage rates or tax rates. If you cant afford kids, dont have them. As for your grocery prices....try to make living as a farmer who gets 3.10 for a bushel of corn and 7.46 for a bushel of beans. you pay the lowest food prices in the world. embrace the life you have here, and work hard for what you want and dont expect handouts. you can do anything you want in this country. stop bitchhing and do it yourself
and Summer's little addendum is an ignorant and idiotic statement, not to mention a lie. what do you do Summer? are you the leader of the free world, or a child who cant to squat so he bitchhes about it, instead of actually doing anything

To me the average "Joe's" are the working class, and yes, we all work our butts off, nothing is handed to us. But then I never heard it was going to be just handed to us.
President Bush has power, but you are asking him to do things that he cannot do, not wouldn't, but it is not in his power.
Some things are just a fact of life, so complaining about them won't get them lowered to what is acceptable to everyone else.
We all pay for gas, homes, food, clothes for our kids, etc, that again is part of life.
The ordinary people work, pay taxes, have a home and have kids, and we all experience the rising cost of everything, but then, we are not alone, everything rises for everyone, regardless of how much you make.

The President doesn't control things like market prices or interest rates; economic factors do. Lowering taxes would certainly make it easier for people to sustain themselves, but it would have to come at the expense of social programs that buy a lot of votes.
Now I'll agree with you that we need to stop sending so much of our hard-earned tax dollars overseas. We have enough things here that need fixed.
