I am sure the "aliens" call their vessel something other then a ufo.
The main technology that we lack as a race is the FTL(faster then light) drive. If this is even possible.
From a relativity perspective it may be impossible to reach speeds faster then light. Light is the fastest moving thing that we know of.
If what people have seen are true aliens, and they are from another planet outside our solar system, they would need faster then light engines. It would take many, many years to get to the next system at the speed of light.
We as a species only possess sub-light engines, and very crude engines at that, we cannot reach speeds anywhere near 1% of the speed of light.
If we could reverse engineer alien technology we could save 100s of years of research, and be able to divert research to other fields.
There is the possiblity that if these "aliens" are real, they are in actuality 1000s of years old to us. Because of relativity, time would be moving much slower for them, and they would be able to live for much longer then anyone on earth.
This depends on what sort of propulsion they are using.

(a) There is no scientific evidence that aliens actually exist.
(b) There is no scientific evidence that "UFO"s are made by aliens.
"UFO" means "Unidentified Flying Object." These are usually "unidentified" because the people reporting them are unfamiliar with the sky and the things which can be seen in the sky. Astronomers never see UFOs because they can usually identify anything they see in the sky. I've been observing the sky carefully every night for fifty years, and have yet to see anything I can't eventually identify.
It would have to be identified to figure out how it was made anyway, wouldn't it?

The same way we made our spaceships - i.e. with technology and engineering know-how. Clearly any species capable of traversing the distances between stars MUST have had a technology that has been developing for a far longer period than ourselves.
Maybe in several tens our hundreds of thousands of years from now, if we haven't destroyed our planet our ourselves, we might be able to make similar vehicles and explore the galaxy.

Well, when you connect the interspatial flux capacitor to the ion generator, you create a flux ion generator, which is the primary source of power. You then add some lights, one of those little dancing hula girls, and go buzz some rednecks.
