Van Morrison to me is one of the most amazing musicians, song writers and voices in the music business, ever. He is like fine aged wine that I was not a big fan when I was in high school but as I grew older, and had some life experience, I grew to greatly appreciate. The fact that he is Irish and still lives there makes it even better. He only comes to the US if he is paid very handsomely and does not really like to very often and that is very cool to me that he enjoys being in Ireland.

Get a copy of Moondance to start and you may see what I mean. Brown Eyed Girl and Domino (the popular ones) are not on there. But if you listen to "Into the Mystic", "And It Stoned Me", "Caravan" and the jazzier title track "Moon Dance" you will maybe start to understand that it was quite an album and he has an amazing voice and talent.

To the answerer above, Shane McGowan played a mixture of Irish folk and punk rock, so yes you are right.

But i have to agree, Thin Lizzy are brilliant.

Rory Gallagher. He's often described as the Irish Jimi Hendrix, although I don't know how accurate a description that is. Slash (Guns 'n' Roses guitarist) once said of him ;

"If Jimi Hendrix is blue and Van Halen is red hot, then Rory Gallagher is Magenta."

I guess that kinda sums him up pretty well.
