bought and rode for a week.. ran great started fine but wouldnt idle. I cleaned carb including pilot jet, no help. I rebuilt carb and now wont start unless kick start being pulled by other atv but runs with no power. Logic told me that it was fine until I messed with the carb so I bought an OE kaw carb and it still wont start and run. compression about 52 psi cold, not good but should still run. Spark is there but appears to be a little week. wont start off of starting fluid. wont pull start. wont start with jump box, etc. Only other thing I did was topped oil opff, may be a little over full but not much. I check ground and appears to be good. Only other thing I noticed is that the new carb came with overfloww tubes, one is extremely long as if it were to connect somewhere rather being a drain?? I worked on this at dusk with no lights and is possible I didnt pay enough attention to what came from where. Parts too expensive to guess.

I dont think any parts fell into engine but maybe knocked some dirt or carbon loose?? If compression the issue, how would this happen so suddenly? The powersports store it cam from had installed a new timing chain before I got it....maybe something there? Does the engine have hydraulic valves? Over full on oil changing valve adjustment?

Sorry but it will not run on 52psi compression! You need a minimum of 125 and these are over 150 new.

You need to adjust your valves. Chances are you have a tight valve. These are bullet proof motors and I haven't seen many with valve damage or worn out rings. Valve settings in thousands is 7 on the intake and 8 on the exhaust.

If you just purchased this from a shop, or just had them work on it, take it back. The chain may have jumped time and bent the valves. The oil is only an issue if it WAY over filled and then it will fill the airbox and maybe blow out a seal or gasket. It uses screw type adjusters on the valves. The correct way to check timing and valves is to pull the large round cap on the side of the head. Pull the cap off the cover by the recoil. Turn the motor over until you see the TDC mark on the flywheel and see if the TDC mark on the camshaft sprocket lines up with the mark at the top of the head. If not, you have BIG TROUBLE! If it does line up then pull the valve caps and check the valve adjustment.

Although valve adjustment doesn't change all of a sudden unless there is a problem, what normally happens is that it's slowly changing and then all of a sudden it's reached a point to where it won't run right. It may not idle, etc.

By the way. All valve adjustments and timing is checked with the motor at TDC on the compression stroke. Turn the motor over in the normal direction of rotation until you see the intake open and close. Go to TDC which is just after that.

You can always e-mail me for more info when you find more out. Good luck.

Like Ghost said, 125psi minimum.
Maybe when the timing chain was installed, something happened to the tensioner and bent the valves a little.
That's one reason the psi dropped so suddenly.
Check the valve adjustment.
If one or more is over loose the valve is bent and will need to be repaired.
Perform a cylinder "leak down" test to check for leaking valves.
The carb's over flow tubes don't connect to anything, they just hang out LOL

Adjust the valves and perform a cylinder leak down test to check for valve leakage.
