saying that Glavine would be the final one to 300. I say Randy Johnson, at 284 wins, still has a shot, and so does Mussina, and that's about it for this current generation of pitchers. I'm not factoring in the pitchers in their 20's like Zambrano, Santana, Zito and Sabathia, who all, could get there if they pitch into their mid 40's.

Mussina has no shot. He has already said he will be playing long enough to get to 300. It's not looking for the Big Unit who is the next closest with 284 but has been on the 3 times this season and currently out for the year with back surgery and has said it's not looking good on whether he'll pitch again.

I don't think Mike Mussina or Randy Johnson will get to 300. I think Johnson will retire at the end of the season and Moose will retire when his contract is up with the Yankees. I think Johan Santana has a good shot. I don't see Carlos Zambrano, Barry Zito, or C.C Sabathia doing it. Hey who knows, it baseball. Anything can happen.

If Johnson somehow recovers from his back surgery, then maybe. But from what I've read in the paper and online, it sounds like he is done for his career.
Moose needs 54 for more wins. Thats going to take at least 5 years the way he has pitched the last few years. I say he plays a couple more seasons but not enough to get to 300.
I agree that Glavine will be the last 300 game winner for a long time. I'm a Twins fan but I don't think Santana will get there. He is 28 and just got his 90th career victory yesterday. I hope he does, but I'm not holding my breath, I think he'll finish around 250-270 for his career.

Mussina has a fair chance at 300. He can do it if he gets a few more wins this year, and then pitches for four more years with 12-15 wins per year. I'd give him a 50 / 50 shot at 300, and if he does get there I'm guessing 2011.

Johnson just had his 3-4 back surgery and they are not sure if he is going to return after this one.
Mussina has a shot, but it's going to take him pictching until he's about 42-43. He's only a 10-12 win guy per season now.
Everyone else it's just to early to tell. I could say Santana has the best shot, and then in his next start he tears his rotor cuff and is out for a year. Plus pitchers are babied these days. 6 innings is considered a good outing, bullpens are so watered down that many leads get lost in the 3 innings after the starter leaves.

yes, i most definatly think that mussina will reach the 300 win mark. i mean hes only 38 and most pitchers pitch into their early 40's. so i definatly think hell have a shot. randy johnson is out with back surgery, so even if he does return, i cant imagine hell be the old randy johnson. i dont know why the media (i think mainly espn) are all saying glavine will be the last of the generation. its kind of stupid. like why say that about someone, why dont they just go up to the player and say "we think ur gonna get 290 wins, then choke and retire." i mean seriously.

54 Wins for Mussina might take him 4 or 5 more years the way he's been pitching lately. That's a tough one but he could do it if he chooses to. Johnson on the other hand might not be physically able to do it after season ending surgery this season.

Are you kidding? Mussina, struggles against even the sub .500 teams and last time I checked wasn't Johnson out with back surgery?

Do you know Mussina's stats this season? He's 7-7 with a 4.66 ERA! Sure, he's won his last 3 starts, but his ERA is still sub-par. Also, don't count on Johnson to do anything with his back.
