You'd have thought two people who work in the medical profession would know how to remove all trace of the blood. Making an 'attempt to clean it up' doesn't sound like the work of two medical professionals. It sounds more amateur and slapdash. What do you think?

(just to make my stance clear, i'm neither pro nor anti McCann. Something doesn't sit right with me where the McCanns are concerned but i'm not at the stage of accusing them of murder)

Why are people answering my question by attacking the McCanns. My question wasn't about what nasty horrible people they are. Get a grip. Read the question and answer the question, anything else is just a rant.

No, it doesn't make sense. Even if they are guilty, which I've always believed probable, and even if they deliberately murdered their daughter, which I think is unlikely as it was more likely a death by negligence followed by a case of Munchhausen by Proxy syndrome, people oftentimes deliberately leave clues to get caught. It's a bizaare trait, but it seems that amateur criminals and offenders often appear to overlook clues contrary to their intelligence and experience. In some ways, if the parents are found to be the culprits, it implies a feeling of guilt buried way down deep.

People are answering your question by attacking the McCanns because that's what most of them seem to do on here.

Whether or not they'd know how to clear the blood up doesn't even come into it for me. Even if the blood is Madeleine's, there are so many reasons why it might be there. Four year old's cut themselves! She might have had a nosebleed, or any one of a number of things.

i agree with you whole heartedly, i too am neither anti or pro the mccanns. i hav read so much stuff on here really ripping them apart and i havent answered because a lot of it is speculation and attacking. however you question is rational which is a breath of fresh air in this debate..........like you sumthing does not sit right for me.........but there is still the old adage 'innocent until proven guilty'............the blood is an interesting turn up and like you say 2 medical professionals wud surely be more thorough. i dont know wat to think but i find it hard to accuse them of murder with out hard evidence............my thoughts and prayers are with the little girl who is still missing....................

If the blood is Maddie's, the parents will probably be grilled intensively, will definitely be given "arguido" status and possibly be held in custody on other charges (child neglect, perverting the course of justice) until other more serious charges can be made to stick.

The police found a bottle of hydrochloric acid in the apartment. It's not widely reported, but it has been leaked. Hydrochloric acid is used for cleaning masonry and etching stone. It's available in builders supply stores in the UK, not sure about Portugal, but according to the reports, the police are trying to determine when the McCanns bought it and where. I do not know if this was used to clean the blood or for some other purpose. For all we know, somebody might have thrown up. After all, vomit contains small particles of blood. And who wouldn't clean up vomit?

From Correio da Manha:

PARENTS WAIT TO SEE CHILD ALIVE

Kate and Gerry McCann had given an interview yesterday to the BBC, the British TV station.

The parents of Madeleine admit that they are the subject of examinations, and guarantee that the Portuguese police continue to say that they are searching for a live child. “We knew these developments would happen”, assured Gerry, commenting to be “encouraged that they are analysing all the possibilities and are very meticulous”. The father of Maddie refused to comment on the possibility of blood in the apartment, saying he did not want to compromise the inquiry, and admitted that the car of the family had been impounded by the police. “We should be treated as everyone else”, he said. The parents of Madeleine hope to see their daughter alive and believe the abduction theory. “On numerous occasions the Portuguese police assured us that they were searching for a live Madeleine. I do not know of any information which changes this”, said Gerry. Kate added, “Last week in the meeting we had to the police, they told us “we are looking for a live child”.

IN THE END WE HAVE TO BE CERTAIN (Francisco Moito Flores, criminologist)

Journal de Dios – of all the evidence organized under the inquiries of the parents and friends, Francisco Moito Flores says the order in which they arrive. It is possible that another person will gain arguido status. They will have to be separated and shut off from each other – always. At the moment they speak as one voice, and no contradictions between them exists. But in the end, we have to make certain – this is inevitable. In short, if somebody says they visited a child at 2100 but the PJ already has a conflicting account, it’s because somebody’s lying. What about the confrontation of witnesses, face to face? Yes, although you will have cases of unchangeable contradictions. The criminal proceedings are very objective and the facts, once demonstrated, have to make sense – after everything pointing in one definitive direction, or if they acquit people, they have to clarify things.

in response to 'wobbly' 's answer if it is maddie blood cos of a small accident like cutting her finger, wouldnt her parents mention the fact that she cut herself while on holiday? What parent wouldnt realise their 3 year old has cut themselves particularly when they bath their child. I don't know of any parent who could wash and dress their child and not notice any cuts.

If it does turn out to be maddie's blood the parents won't be able to save themselves by saying 'oh yer she cut her finger' because why wouldnt they have mentioned it in the first place?

ah now I think there is some confusion here
I think the blood was not visible to the naked eye but with chemicals and ultra violet light it shows up - you can not clean blood up totally
so an attempt to clean it means clean it so that it is not visible to the naked eye. Nobody could have done better, whoever it was.
by saying this I am not inferring that it was either madelines blood, nor that it was her parents attempt to clean up

my feeling is some guy stubbed his toe years ago and the cleaners doing what they would normally cleaned it up . . .

The blood was apparently cleaned up very well. It could not be seen to the naked eye, was only seen under ultra violet light and sniffed out by trained dogs. Unfortunately, you can never totally remove DNA however clever you are.

They might have removed what they thought was all the blood, but some traces of it were left.

You can't clean blood up. You can try, but the police have technology that can see it even though you can't. I think it's done by ultra violet.

I agree with answer one and when they were trying to clean it up makes it a bit suspious looking.
