Hey I heard in news yesterday that there is going to be a meteor shower on 12th august at night!! They say the best time to see it is 11:00 pm onwards!! There will be no moon in the sky and there will be hundreds of meteors in the sky!! So don't miss this chance!

I even heard that the scientists discovered a new planet and they named it "TRES - 4"!!
It is 10 times bigger than the sun, 1 1/2 times bigger than Jupiter with a temperature 2,300* C and is 1,400 light years away!!!

I just wanted to share this information with you'll!!

A planet 10 times bigger than the Sun could not exist.

The size of Tres 4 is 1.67 times the diameter of Jupiter and it has .84 of the mass of Jupiter. It has a predicted surface temperature of 1300 C. It's parent star has begun to grow into a Red Giant.

That's why we have sites like NASA to deliver astronomical news.

There will be a meteor shower, but the maximum expected rate is about 50 to 80 meteors per hour. That is about one a minute, so you need patience. You will not see them going zoom, zoom, zoomzoom all the time. You will relax, lay back, looking up, and after a minute or two you will go, OH, there was one! And a couple minutes later you might see another one and so on. You probably won't see as many as 50 per hour as early as 11:00 PM. The best time is just before dawn, like 4:00 AM the morning of the 13th. But you never know. Meteor showers can be very unpredictable. You may see none, or only 5 an hour, or you may get lucky and see the kind of hundreds per hour zoom-zoom-zoom show that is so rare. I have never been that lucky.

A meteor shower is when large rocks in space come close to the earth. the rocks burn up in the earth's atmosphere, which is what creates the pritty lights. There are usually a whole bunch of them. You can wish on a meteor shower, it's good luck.

Hey, the sun is bigger than Jupiter right? So how can 'TRES - 4' 10 times bigger than the sun, and yet only 1 1/2 times bigger than Jupiter?

But thanks for the meteor info, Rae. I'll definitely go n watch.

Just a bit of a correction.

TrES-4 is about 1.5 times biggger than Jupiter (the Lowell press release says 70% larger, i.e. 1.7 times) but this is not 10 times bigger than the Sun since the Sun has an equatorial radius about 10 times bigger than Jupiter (695,000 km vs 71,500 km). The Lowell press release says the star TrES-4 is orbiting (GSC 02620-00648) is about 10 times bigger than the planet, so around 70% larger than our Sun.
