I have a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird with 2.0L Fuel Injected 4cyl. engine and I just did a tune up about 3 months ago, so today I was checking the timing settings etc on it, when I decided to pull of some wires because I thought the firing order was set wrong, which it wasn't,...but anyhow a couple of the cap ends pulled out slightly, enough to see the wire behind them, and then they slid right back into the cap again...it still starts, and seems to run ok as before...but I'm wondering if I should replace the cap anyway's...?

You didn't damage anything, but as the previous answer said, it's probably worth replacing the wires just due to their age. If you're going this route, replace the whole system - cap, plugs, and wires.

There are generic replacement kits available, but some of these have really really long wires. Unless the cost is outrageous, ask at the parts store for a replacement set that fits your car. NOT THE PONTIAC DEALER!!!!! they'll charge you a massive amount.

Given the number of miles and age of the cap, it wouldn't hurt to replace it.

What could it hurt? You've gotten 17 years out of it. They aren't that expensive. Go for it.
