Home ownership for many australians is now a dream... an unattainable dream at that ...
and I agree .. Mr Howard and his Government ARE largely to blame...
BUT there's one thing I want you to consider... ( and IT's not an attempt to defend the Government .. just check out any other of my answers re John Howard.)....
in the days of our parents/grandparents.. they would struggle to buy a house.. No credit cards . BUT they started small ... say a two/three bedroom house... ONE bathroom, ONE loo, One car garage ( which didn;t always have a car )
They started with second hand furniture or had furniture that they paid off on lay-bys ( remember laybys??) ..
THEY didn't have to have the newest mod-cons, they didn't need the newest of furniture ( i've heard stories of fruit crates being used as tables) .
Maybe .. and It would STILL BE VERY HARD .. and for all I know you may have been prepared to do JUST this .. IF you were prepared to drive an older car, have ratty-tatty furniture, Not have Pay-TV or three mobile phone .. Live extremely basically .. MAYBE YOU could still obtain your house.
We bought our house 19 yrs ago .. when interest rates were in the high teens .. LOL we still live in a tiny house, still have ratty-tatty furniture ( don't sacrifice the modcons though) , don't have Pay-TV ( cos it really doesn't seem worth it) ... THING IS THOUGH .. we NOW pay NO RENT or Mortage .. It's OURS.
I hope one day YOU will be able to buy that house...
Start small work up to big DESPITE the government.

I am really sorry to hear this. I hope you can put yourself in a somewhat stable financial position for the time being and try to ride out the storm.
Little piggy and his monkey treasurer has tried to tell us he was going to keep rates low, and as we see they are full of sh!t!
Please find yourself some comfort in the knowledge that you wont be held to ransome by the shifting monetary policy in the next 12months or so. I truely beieve we will see some serious relief in 2 years time, by which you may be in a better position to make the step back into property ownership. I believe that regardless of where or what property you chose, it is better to "hold a posiiton" meaning have something rather than nothing because as time goes by property prices go up and up and if you are not on ther boat you wont be able to enjoy the ride even if you are in the worst house it is still going to increase in value better that what it would if you just had the cash stuck under your mattress.
End of the day my friend, go and find a quiet place to re settle yourselves, and then start to consider your options for buying a slightly less expensive option where you will not be stretched to your limit if there is any rate increases, and finally consider fixed rate mortgages in future, 2 years agoi was able to fix mine at 6.69% for 3 years, in a years time i will be facing the real standard variable which will probably look like 8.5% or more but at least i was able to avoid the stress for 3 years, and have cheaper repayments for that 3 years.
Any way whos going to vote for the old blub, not many of us and he is getting really nasty about it, he doesnt care anymore, he has nothing to lose anymore, if he was toi win his party would give him the sack too.

He doesn't care he will be getting a nice fat pension, super and lots of free travel and he is still under the delusion that he has been good for Australia.
You know how I hope he feels like a rat up a drain pipe with no-where to go but down.

I am so sorry for you. I wish these b@sT@rds could see what they are really doing to people and how they affect our lives.
I would like to wish you all the best and hopefully sometime in the not too distant future you will be able to buy you own home. All the very best of luck.

Craig, I feel so sorry for you and yours, Because you do not make $200,000:00 PA, You and I are just little people that have to fight their own way in life. I used to work overseas and always dreaded the thought that I could be captured in a foreign country. I could not rely on this Govt. to help me out.
Alexander would always be trying on a new pair of stockings and could not answer my phone call if that ever happened to me.
