In the beginning of the movie there are humans fighting against robots in the future. Then later humans decide to travel in time to the 1980's but the evil robots follow them there, because they can see if humans are traveling in time. Then the battle continues in the 1980's. The guy from the future later falls in love with a woman from the 80's i think.
This movie was released in the 80's too!

...much like my fellow question answers, I was initially inclined to spout off with "The Terminator", myself, as this seems the most recognizable choice, based upon what you describe; however, after some thought, I DID recall a another real good sci-fi time-travel film, where the traveler of the future (...a cop, played by Tim Thomerson), goes to the 80's, to battle creatures created by a bad guy, who also traveled from the future (...in this case, zombified slaves, instead of robots), and the cop falls for a girl in that time period (...a pre-"Mad About You" Helen Hunt)...
The films was called "Trancers", from the folks over at Full Moon/Empire Pictures, in 1985...
...could this possibly be what you were looking for??? We're kinda runnin' outta options, here (I also have an Italian "Terminator" ripoff in mind, as well as a Hindu ripoff; but I'm hard-pressed to think that too many people have actually seen these, as they were not released in the U.S., except on 'bootleg' video).....
