It may be an unpopular and uncomfortable position to take, but I've said all along that the parents, themselves, may in fact be the culprits in this case. I was actually verbally accosted on the street for suggesting this while in Lisbon two months ago. Regardless, you cannot assume the innocence of anyone if you are to conduct a thorough investigation, and the current investigation into the McCann’s will, at best, clear them of suspicion. If otherwise, while it will be truly embarrassing to the Pope and other figures who hosted them on their whirlwind tour of Europe (in itself suspicious - wouldn't they have been in Portugal during the search for their daughter rather than "on vacation"/"raising awareness"?), best to make people aware and skeptical of such events going forward. Munchhausen by Proxy is a growing disorder amongst parents worldwide, and needs to be addressed. Parents currently escape the psychiatric and legal attention they need by being considered "above suspicion".

I don't believe there will be a conclusion. Eventually the investigation will be scaled down. The press and the media will stop reporting and in twenty years time people will ask, I wonder what really happened with Maddy all those years ago, just like Ben Needham. There are lots of other kids missing that nobody got to know about.
It's a bit like reading a book with the last page missing. We all want to know for peace of mind, but I don't think so.

Translation of article in today's Diario de Noticias:
Kate McCann brought in for interrogation.
The courts want to clarify contradictory versions.
The PJ, which now rules as certain the death of Madeleine McCann in the apartment at Praia da Luz where the family holidayed, re-interviewed the parents of the child yesterday afternoon.
The inquiry lasted about one hour in the Department of Criminal Inquiry in Portimao. According to one source, the objective of the interrogation was to clarify some discrepancies in the statements of the McCanns when their daughter disappeared on 3 May. The investigators had returned to hear again what the couple had to say and with whom and where the child spent the hours leading up to her disappearance.
The meeting had nothing to do with the regular weekly meetings of the McCanns with the PJ at the British Consulate in Portimao. These weekly meetings take place on Thursdays and the associate national director of the PJ participates. The objective is to keep the couple informed of the evolution of the inquiries, something the couple praises in its declarations to the press.
Only yesterday, the courts wanted to clarify the increasing doubts around the family context and proximity of the McCann couple. Gerry and Kate left at 17.20 from the back of the garage of the PJ building in the car that they have used in the Algarve, and will be re-interviewed on Tuesday.
It was noted that on the afternoon of the 4th May, the day after the occurrence, and after having heard the McCann couple and witnesses who were staying in the tourist resort, the police had already thought the McCanns’ statements to be “very badly recounted”, doubting their claims of abduction, as this paper has already reported. Also seen yesterday afternoon at the DIC in Portimao was Spanish journalist Antonio Toscano, who works for El World, who delivered a dossier containing information on paedophiles. Toscano, who continues to believe that Maddie is alive, was not seen by the PJ, who refused to accept the documents. The journalist, whose qualifications the PJ has dismissed, guarantees that a man known in Spain as “El Frances” with links to international paedophile rings, is involved in the Madeleine case, having connections with Jean Pierre Roffi, convicted in the Pious House case.
The blood collected in the apartment where Maddie disappeared was sent to Birmingham because in Portugal they do not have technicians for this type of examination. The scientific techniques in Portugal are so obsolete they could destroy the DNA sample in the process.
The searches of the sea and the beach involving British police dogs had been suspended yesterday without any justification, although it is kown that the English had asked for a specialist on sand patterns to be brought in from the University of the Algarve.
However, yesterday, the McCanns took on a third spokesman since Madeleine’s disappearance. David Hugs will replace Justine McGill, with whom the couple have come to grips.

No I don't. Statistically it is the parents who are the prime suspects and they left that child alone in a room with children who were even younger than she was/is. It seems odd that she could be snatched without any evidence being left behind or anyone seeing anything and the parents do not react like people that have lost their child.
I am skeptical.

I do hope so. Yes, Kate does seem on the verge of a breakdown...but she seemed this drained & miserable since the night her baby was snatched. I don't think its wise or fair to make assumptions about a marriage unless you know the couple personally, do you?

I think that we will never know. The little girl will have disappeared from the face of the earth, and her parents will live under a cloud of suspicion until their deaths. They will always be trying to juggle between grieving, guilt at leaving her, and having to defend themselves against accusations of murder.
Aren't you glad you're not in their shoes?
I ope I am wrong and this is resolved.

I hope the truth does come out, it seems like more information is coming out, but the police still aren't asking the McCanns the questions they should be askign them.

I'm sorry to say that i don't think that they wil ever find her. It has been too long now since she went missing.
I feel terrible for the parents, and I know that they will blame themselves forever that they were the ones who left her in the apartment that night.
Its such a terrible thing to happen and my heart goes out to them! x
