sleepwalker69: you don't understand the actual question or you don't understand what I mean by the question. If it's the former, it's simply a matter of your interpretation.

It goes to motivation.

Both lying and failing to tell the truth can be acts of deception.

Lying is always an act of concealment however, and failing to tell the truth can be but it can also be an error of ommision.

However, neither is always wrong. Both have appropriate uses.

Do you mean that when my husband comes home late from work and I say, "Where have you been?" And he says , "Oh, the traffic was horrendous." Was he lying because he omitted telling me that he stopped at a friends house to BS for an hour, even though the traffic really WAS horrendous. Yes, that's a lie.

If someone asks me , "How many children have you had?" Let's say I lost a child in childbirth, but I don't mention it because it is none of that person's business, no that's not a lie. That's exercising my right to privacy.

So it depends on the situation.

Lying...is failing to tell the truth. So yes.

No. If someone asks you a question and you lie, it is one thing, failing to volunteer the truth, can be another. There can be times when this is necessary.

i.e. If asked, does my bum look big in this?
You can tell truth and say yes...or...you can say, that outfit looks good, and omit saying that the bum still looks bloody huge.

Most of the time, yes. But, I would consider them not the same, if you knew about something and didn't say anything because it wasn't your truth to tell. Does that make sense?

Lying is saying I am a virgin to every girl you sleep wit.

Failin to tell da truth is saying you lookin good when someone is recovering in da hospital.
